This makes sense for both developers since Vornado wouldn't want units in their tower to be rendered valueless by blocked views. As it is both towers will need wraparound units on the sides to cash in on CP views. But since this is such a mutually beneficial move, I'm thinking that Extell really did want both sites and relented over cash flow issues. Barnett has been a seller lately and reduced the size of 225 W. 57th when he could have dominated the neighborhood.

Barnett may have reduced the height, but I doubt that he reduced the square footage.

agreed. He still has 88 units while cutting it down the height by 250ft. This tower will be wider.

For the longest time i was expecting this tower to be above 400, now that i see 382 as the height in the thread, I feel underwhelmed. Hopefully the renders will soothe our disappointment.

Some people thought it'd be 500, even 600 metres.

I don't find that funny, that is what we were led to believe.

HOC was listed as 472 metres. Just adding 128 metres for your estimate will always disappoint you in the end. Just be grateful we're getting something at all.

28 Meters is realistic with mechanical floors and a crown, so please do not act like you were not one speaking of a near 500m tower, do not make a fool out of yourself.

I am rather disappointed with the revelation that this tower is no longer going to be 1550 feet like everyone here although to be honest, i'm not entirely surprised. However, worse than that is the design alluded to by the 'source' has not exactly tickled my fancy. I fear another boring tower with setbacks that resembles the Trump Chicago. I was hoping for a revolutionary organic design to offset the letdown of the height decrease. I have seen various examples of Asian towers designed by these architects that are out of this world, and it pains me to hear that the tower here is going to be a mix between the E Tower at HY and Trump Chicago, towers that I do not find too inspiring to say the least However, I'll wait and see what the outcome will be with bated breath and I hope the talented good Sir, Mr. Adrian Smith, can surprise me with something "out of the box (or in the case, round setbacks)" so to speak.

Any official source confirmed the height reduction? Or is it only based on what that "james" user stated?

What ever its height will be, the grocery store is finally removed (brick by brick) and there is a pile of bricks where it was. The rest of the site is clear. Maybe foundation digging can begin soon...

I think they still have to tear down the back of the building that faces Broadway.

Kinda have to agree, a 1200 foot tower is nice, but not really that special these days.

Still better than nothing though.

I will however, never believe anyone ever again who claims to be able to build a 1500 foot tower in NYC.

1,200' feet is extremely special. Not one tower that high is planned anywhere in the US, Europe, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, etc., outside of NY.

In fact, of all those vast places, only 2 cities (other than NY) have 1,200'+ towers: HK has 2; Chi has 1, and NY is poised to have 6.

I didn't forget about it. It's as realistic as the Chicago Spire was (I.e., not happening). I'm sure a few 50 story boxes will rise on that site in a few years. Chicago does not remotely have the pricing power or international demand that NY does to justify such a project. Anyway, the renderings of that project look like crap.

I wonder if Wanda's big September announcement is this tower. It's entirely possible that it is Extell's partner.

Certainly a possibility. Wanda was named the richest man in China and announced he is looking to build a ton of hotels & purchase some big hotel chains. Hopefully he decides to build 2 in NYC.

Well, amongst developed nations, Seoul has the Lotte World Tower at 555m. And, as soon as the required bureaucracy is complete, Busan will have a Lotte tower, too, at 510m (granted, with a cheating spire, but nonetheless).
