And if they don't give it a tunned mass dampener (but I bet it'll have one) it'll be like a roller coaster in strong winds

107 ft is more than 432Park, which is about 92-93 ft wide if I'm correct.

That might be misleading in the case of 107 W 57th, as the building might be using the depth of the lot to create a base that is well over 43 feet wide in that dimension. This will particularly be the case if that low section at the back of the lot is demolished.

I'll be somewhat surprised if JDS is unable to convince the Landmark Commission to allow JDS to demolish a central portion of the Steinway building in order to construct the tower. As long as the portions of the building fronting on 57th St. and 58th St. are maintained, the Steinway's history will be largely maintained.

That makes sense. 1:31,4 is just ridiculously thin, more like a TV tower or something.

Paul Hastings Represents Nordstrom in Acquiring Site for First New York City Retail Store

Monday, September 23, 2013

Quote:
New York, NY— Paul Hastings, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm represented Nordstrom, Inc. in its recent acquisition of a development site for its first store in New York City, a 285,000-square-foot retail space which will be bounded by 57th Street, 58th Street, and Broadway. Nordstrom acquired a fee below a plane (located approximately 255 feet above grade) and entered into a reciprocal easement agreement with Extell, as the owner of the air rights above 2,455 feet.

As part of this representation, the firm negotiated a development agreement with Gary Barnett and Extell Development Company pursuant to which Extell will construct the core and shell components of...

the Nordstrom store as part of a major mixed-use real estate development of approximately 865,300 square feet.

Upon completion, it will be one of the tallest buildings in New York City, at approximately 1,450 feet and 87 stories.

Real Estate Partner Bruce DePaola led the Paul Hastings team, which included associates Heather Lockhart and Alyssa Lust.

This is the best news I've heard in a very long time. 1 450 feet is a dream of mine comming true, I want to cry out of happiness as one of those young girls that won Miss Universe. I really hope that this is true because 1 450 feet is a truly jaw dropping height, this is what I mean when I say impressive height

Btw, a mod should edit the thread title with this newest information

If it was a joke I don't care...it was impressive and elaborate. Oh...and now the surprise of this height feels much better than the expectation of this height.

So it will be as tall as Chicago's Sears Tower?

This building was supposedly going to contain 1.2 million sq feet of floor space. Now it's down to 865k?

Happy about the 1,450 foot figure. Not the most usual source, though (Nordstrom's law firm for the transaction). When we hear from Nordstrom or Extell, then it'll be more reliable.

EDIT: Sear's Tower is listed as 1,451 feet tall, so "approximately 1,450 feet" for this tower might mean we'll have a new tallest building in the western hemisphere.

No. If I'm not mistaken, the 865K figure does not include Nordstrom space that they are taking which is aprox. 200K sq ft. So that's a total area of 1.06 m sf.

That is obviously less than 1.2m sf that had been reported but if we are going to go by this article it would make sense because the Height dropped from 1550 to 1450 and got a haircut of 1 floor, so 1.06 m sf would seem right.

lol. I stand corrected! So pretty much it almost matches the 1.2 m sft then.

Nordstrom 285,000 sq ft
Extell Res 865,300 sq ft
Total 1,150,300 sq ft
