No, the Nordstrom square footage was decreased from 285K to 175K, so it'll be ~1.04M total.

But great news!

P.S. Someone should put a block of wood on the roof to make it 1" taller than Sears.

On that article I posted above it says the law firm assisted Nordstrom for 285K sf retail space on their announcement. I dunno. Yea Gary should make the parapet a wee little bigger. hehe

Oh, well I stand corrected. Apparently the reduction didn't happen after all.

And yeah, they should add an extra five or so feet to make it tallest in the U.S.

You know, I've seen a couple of "fake renders" of this tower and the other one that doesn't have the design (or is this one the Nordstrom Tower), and all of them show really good designs. Why can't the architect just build one of those pictures? I wouldn't be upset if he did.

Very much hope this is true, this is the perfect height imo. Tall enough to distract the eye from 432 but not so high that it dominates. Perfect.

I want one that is as close to 1776 feet as possible, but not over 1776 feet. And I want one in Lower Manhattan.

Well, everything's true except for that last one. I want New York to move forward (somehow) and not get stuck for 10 years on 1000 feet. We've already accomplished that, big time. I mean, if building a 1,700 feet tower doesn't ruin Lower Manhattan, how can a 1,600 feet tower ruin Midtown? I mean, it's the heart of Manhattan! We would create a big city JUST IN MIDTOWN! (and I guess Midtown IS kind of a city in itself).

I'm done with skyscrapers in New York. I want supertalls. And we're getting one. Maybe 2. Or 3. OR TONS OF THEM!

Well that's exciting, a 1450 foot building is huge

hopefully since it's an approximation they can make it taller than sears

Hi all,

good news! This project is like a roller coaster ride which never ends. To be honest, that 1,450' figure is unknown to me. So we went from 1,550 to 1,250 to now 1,450. Apparently this tower has been in redesign for quite some time now.

I'm curious when we'll see an official statement from Extell. Gotta make a phone call to my friend to see if he knows anything about this new height figure and maybe a new design.

Have a nice day all,

Regards,
James

PS: I know Paul Hastings, but I don't work for them. As stated, my company works with Extell and some other firms.

1450,, not as good as the original height,, but a hell of a lot better than1250 or whatever,, just hard to fathom it being 12 inches shorter than Sears..You know they won't settle for that.

It is an optimistic article (compared to the height of 1250 feet). BUT I'd rather wait for an official confirmation.

Me too. But I'm glad there is a chance to get to at least somehow close to the original 1550ft.

Actually if this will have the 1450 feet height, it will just show that NYC isn't aiming to have the tallest building, in contrast to some other cities. If they really cared about having the tallest, the height will stay higher. They will just settle the perfect height in combination with everything that goes with it. And instead of the tallest go for the ultimate design. It will gain attention anyway due to it's superb location.

It's not that they wouldn't want to have the tallest, they want to have the tallest, but even more they want to maximize profit and NYC construction is driven by profit. But as long as the building is at least 1 368 I don't really mind whether it's 3 000 or 1 450

Indeed that's what they are doing.

Well it's the developer that isn't claiming anything. NY has no decision in the height of this tower.

True but the people who do have the control over this know what they are doing. And it's damn good.
