That's a large site for NYC. So there's still one more thing to be demolished? (The one in the black covering)

I just want to say that until the 57 Carnegie is finished I don't expect to see anything going on in this site. Market is heated enough, but no one will be as reckless as in 2006-2007.

Yes, that is going. However the facade, if I recall correctly, will be preserved.

That's correct. They're razing the rear portion of the building, but the 57th St portion (including the faccade) will remain.

Probably nothing. That Jumes guy said we would see some renderings by now but then he revised his statement. Apparently the project is once again in redesign ...

I wonder when Extell is planning to make an official statement about the project. The excitement is killing me.

it seems to me that maybe, just maybe, Extell have grander plans for the building. If they can have more space and money from it - it is kinda stupid to not do more. Apartment market is as hot as it gets.

So I think/hope that a taller version is in the works. After all - who says it should not be taller than ESB?

Besides they have lots of stuff on their plate as of now

The illustrator should also add Michael Stern of JDS Dev holding up his tower in that photo battling Macklowe and Barnett!

Probably fair to do for now because of the permits, but I bet the building will ultimately be branded with a different, more marketable address, the way 107 w57th was changed to 111.

Here we go!

An sketch rendering of the West Broadway side base of the Nordstrom Tower has surfaced & will be shown at this hearing.

It doesn't show much of the tower but feel free to let your imagination run wildly.

‘Scuse me, while I kill the sky: Extell’s 1,550-foot tower revealed (sorta)
http://mgross.com/gripebox/scuse-me-...ower-revealed/

Quote:
Extell’s latest towering erection on West 57th Street is set to be revealed tonight at a last minute meeting of the Landmarks Committee of Community Board #5 more than fifty blocks away from the neighborhood surrounding the proposed development (which is set to include a branch of the Nordstrom department store in its base and a hotel and condos for the wealthy above).

Sketches of that s base, a rendering, and a bird’s eye view of the mammoth building to be cantilevered over the landmark Art Students League, can be seen by clicking through below. Curiously, the gargantuan height of the proposed tower is not shown though you can click each image to see it full-size. Or perhaps, that’s not curious at all. As New York magazine’s architecture critic Justin Davidson wrote recently in a review of another Extell tower, “we bear the aesthetic cost,” of thoughtless, profit driven development. “In theory,” Davidson continued, “developers of these billionaires’ beanstalks pay for their portions of sky and light with architecture worth looking at. In practice, they judge design by their clients’ taste for glitz.” The meeting, at which public comment on the tower is welcome, will be held at 6PM tonight the the library on the second floor at Xavier High School at 30 West 16th Street. Please attend!

Don't actually know what to say about this! The fact is that it is going to be really huge and dominating!

James is sort of right! Eh? Rendering revealed by the end of Sept. From the sketch, it shows the glass to be silverfish. Silver facade would be sweet.

Aquablue's suggestion of silver has been answered it appears. Mr. Walpole seems to be right about some sort of deal with 220cps, the top-most square is really far to the east. If this tower switches to just that little square then this could hit 1550, if it stays wide for a while like One57 I don't think it can.

Really thought we would be seeing curves not a collection of right angles.

It could star to take a curvy shape as it rises! I'm really tempted to swing by this hearing tonight to catch a glimpse of a full reveal.

This is going to be a very bold tower. I can't wait to see the full design.

Do it, and sneak in a camera!

It's hard to know from those images if this is an actual design, or more of a "what we could do in the proposed building envelope." But lordy is this thing going to be massive. If it really is 1550 ft., and that entire gargantuan tower segment is cantilevered over another building, I mean, Jesus.
