Very disappointed with this tower; if you made Mumbai's World One more cubic, they would be twins.

The cantilever is awkward. I was upset at the meeting because the Committee's leader Howard totally shot me down & demeaned me when I asked a very valid question regarding the cantilever's necessity in the context of 220 Central Park South - which is the only reason there will be a cantilever in the first place, though Gordon Gill gave the excuse that Nordstrom needs column-free spaces (they could easily put the tower on top of 1780 Broadway if that were the case).

The massing between the various sections is quite awkward and it's literally like each component was designed with its clients' needs in mind then awkwardly jumbled together; the retail space is fine enough but the hotel sits awkwardly on top, and the residential portion juts out from the side to reach the tower's pinnacle.

All in all it was a boring meeting until the Nordstrom Tower came up, but I'm very disappointed the concern over the cantilever touched on views and shadows and the Arts Building, but not on WHY the cantilever is there to begin with - and several people afterwards complimented me on my comment. Seriously ticked off.

Mumbai's World One: imagined with rectilinear boxes

One dude called at an icon, and BBR was not impressed. As Warner Wolf used to say in NY sports broadcasts: "Let's go to the videotape!"

Yep, with a bigger base and the tall part awkwardly cantilevered over that base.

Posting video ASAP, taking forever to upload to DropBox; it's bad quality but gets the point across & you can see enough of the tower to get the gist.

I like World One tower! But more cubic?? If it were the same exact design as Mumbai's I would be thoroughly satisfied because it would be similar to Trump Chicago w/o a spire. Need to see video b4 making comments. Holdinnnng breath!

AS+GG designed the Zifeng Tower in Nanjing so staggered, 'cantilevered rectangles' (or boxes) is familiar turf:

That tower is better looking than this one. Another apt comparison would be the failed ACC proposal in Philadelphia sans the spire.

So I take it that the Nordstrom will have 3 set backs as James mentioned but this will not be curvy?? I think curvy would have looked awesome. Patiently waiting for video here.

Just got to say, my wife is thinking I'm having an affair here. She keeps seeing posting and checking my ipad. Hehe

This is alarming. Not a fan of the Zifeng tower.

I love Zifeng and like World One. I highly doubt it will be that bad.

You didn't have to sit through two hours of LPC drudgery nor did you see the renderings so I don't think your opinion is all that relevant.

FWIW I'm glad it won't be just a vertical slab. My hopes were already dashed when Herzog+de Meuron didn't get the gig.

You voluntarily went and sat there for 2 hours, no one forced you. If the tower design is that hideous to you then fine, or is it that your mad because your question got shot down? No need to take it out on other people.
