Wow, that is one ugly tower.

I expected a work of art from these guys, something beautiful like the Trump Tower, or the Wuhan building. I wish this was 500 feet so you couldn't see it in the skyline!

Admittedly it could be worse; it just seems like they thought of each component as its own entity rather than as part of a larger structure, and there doesn't seem to be any consideration for its historic neighbors. Oh well.

From Gordon Gill's speech, everything is finalized - it will be 1,423' and 10 inches tall, and they were talking about the cantilever et al with precision measurements.

Thanks BBR!

First. I like the Nordstrom portion. I'm digging the x bracing element on the windows. The cantilevered does look awkward from what I could tell from the vantage point shown. Was hoping to get a full view of the tower. There was a part shown where you could get an idea sort of the shape of the building, but the point of view shown from street level really did not show the tower properly IMO. Eagerly waiting for the full release of the renderings to make my opinion known. They were using some Hollywood effects in the presentation with people and traffic moving around in front if the tower. Lol.

Hope this helps visualize it. Stupid video, disappointing design, BUT it isn't boring. I'm happy about that.

TY for the screengrab. And sorry my video was so painfully bad, though theirs wasn't amazing to start.

Also, the residential part continues upwards to a flat roof in that exact same form; it really is like an enormous rectangular stick stuck to the podium/hotel.

I reserve judgment, as it's hard to see the details. When I first saw the photo of the Steinway Tower from the WSJ, it looked awkward, but I love it now that I've seen other angles.

Woops, I was criticizing the slow as hell panning not the shaky cam! I know how hard it is to keep steady.

Thanks for posting that video.

Pretty distinctive shape. Hopefully the details will improve its appearance when we get hi-res renderings.

I'm really liking the detailing at the base which offers some unexpected flair.

The massing is indeed unusual for NYC

This would be perfect in Kuwait City!

In many ways this looks more like a SHoP design than 107 W.57th!

Agreed! Btw, Adrian Smith always stressed about his designs being contextual. From what I could tell so far is that there is nothing contextual about it. It's not a tower where you can say it's NY or at least it doesn't even appear contextual to its surroundings.

My expectations had been too high because it is Adrian Smith and it is their first NY project. It is a BIG DEAL for architects to have a opportunity to mark their stamp in NYC. So I expect AS+GG to come up big the way ShOp came through for 107.

Like Robert said, when they first revealed 107 W 57 we were mostly ok and happy, then finally they released the tower in detail we all became stupified.

I'm wishing for the same thing here.

So far honestly, IMO I prefer this design at 1,250 ft over the glimpse of a design we had seen so far tonight.

I made some calculation scaling the schemes they provided today, and the tower portion is about 85 X 100 ft. or 26 x 31 m. (the longer side facing the park) one side longer and the other shorter than 432, overall about the same size in sq ft.

im gonna wait till we see the top before passing judgement. The midsection sure is awkwardly proportioned with those cantilevers.

HORROR!! All the hype for this? I always thought those guys buildings were mediocre at best but to come up with this thing is such a prime location in NYC!? It's almost insulting. These guys should never again build anything in NYC! Keep that stuff in Asia
