People also have to stop acting as if there aren't going to be any more tall buildings in this area of midtown, near Central Park. This will fit in perfectly in 10 years, I'd say.

@Ghostface This is really so ugly? I'd bet the cantilever wouldn't even be visible from most angles apart from the base of the tower itself.

That's not the final design. All that we know is that there will be a cantilevered tower.

Q: What’s next for Adrian Smith?

A: “At Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, we are working on a supertall building in New York City and we’re working on two very tall buildings in China, each one to be taller than the Sears (Willis) Tower.”
Shame this one isn't taller than Willis. And a better design wouldn't hurt.

We don't know what the Nordstrom tower will look like. The massing model merely showed the cantilver.

1423 ft was the figure announced by the AS+GG at that hearing. What I'm wondering is if that figure includes the crown.

Actually I Think it is not clear what he meant with "each", is it each of the two towers in China or is it each of the two towers in China and the one in New York?

According to Robert Walpole they still don't have the fina design for the tower.

Has it been officially stated that was just a massing model?

Yes. My colleague has uncontroverted knowledge that a massing model was shown, which depicts only the cantilver -- not the design of the tower.

Ah thanks for the clarification! I had seen you say a few times that only a massing model was shown, but I didn't see a source. I didn't think you would speculate, but I just wanted to confirm.

did he/she give any details about the look? whether it's curvy, boxy, has a crown etc?

None. She just stated unequivocally that a massing model was shown.

As per this doc filed with the DOB today, Extell still lists it as 1,550 feet.

Gordon Gill literally said it would be 1,423' and 10" so I don't think the permit is correct.
