Lol! I literally don't know how to react anymore when it comes to this tower. Whatever the height will be I hope there is a pleasant surprise in store. Anything but that "massing model".

To be honest, for me it was all about height at first. Now I don't care that much anymore (well it should at least be a 1300 footer). But what I do care about is the design which hopefully will be worthy of New York. The skyline just can't absorb an uninspired or even ugly tower, not at this height!

I feel the same way, something with that height needs to be inspiring. I am being optimistic as this was just a massing model shown. The initial concept I like.

Spot on Hunser! That is exactly how I feel. Funny a'int it? I think we all recognize that ultimately the design trumps the height. It would be great if we can get both and I'm still hoping for that with this one.

I'm sure that's correct, unless it's to the top floor.

But then again DOB usually lists it to the top floor.

Whatever.. we'll see

The permit is for excavation & isn't an update on the NB permit. So disregard it. The height has been explicitly stated at this point.

I agree, once the NB permit gets approved we should see the change in height.

If AS+GG says it's going to be 1,423 then I take their word. I just hope they decided to give the occupied roof height figure which would be reflected in the DOB filing. Sooo, I'm hoping the figure they gave is minus the crown??

Community Board Rejects Extell’s Plan to Cantilever Skyscraper Over Landmarked Art Students League

Though they are amazingly popular with billionaires, Gary Barnett’s luxury developments are not always well-liked by other residents, and at the Community Board 5 meeting Thursday night, his latest project met with widespread disapproval. After lengthy deliberation, the board voted to reject Extell’s request for a permit to cantilever a 1,550-foot super-skyscraper at 217 West 57th Street over the landmarked Students Art League next door....

I wonder how this will effect the design and height. Looks like we are going into another redesign process unless AS+GG already has an alternative design ready if something like this happens as it did. Otherwise it looks like we may see a reveal of the rendering much later rather sooner.

Maybe Gary as a response is going to say FU to CB5! This sucker is going to be 1600 ft!

that could be so, and it could also be the reason why the top floor height was 472m instead of a 434m roof height

maybe the 472m/1550ft was the none-cantilever design which was a second option as it costs more?

Could be. It may be a blessing in disguise. I mean the reason for the cantilever was to make the tower wider to max the sq ft, but now there is no other way to do this but to go up & of course the Nordstrom reason wanting wider floor plate.

My main thing really especially what we have seen and what I have learned is design over height but I'm hoping for both & we may very well get it.

The cantilever was the most interesting thing about the design :-(

What I do not understand: They bought the air rights of that historic building, but actually they are not allowed to use the airspace above that building. That does not seem very logical for me.
