Amanda ,dont release a building permit for that shit.
Developers with these ambitions need to become enlighted to the arts! we need a something of special , a masterpiece.Developers you have the responsability when you build in this town and in this scale, dont rape the wonderfull ny urban landscape.soulles people, they see the architecture like a diagram structure made by dollars!

Ok 2 things that raised my eyebrow in this article below:

1)
Quote:
a group led by Steve Witkoff is buying the Park Lane Hotel on Central Park South for $650 million, with plans to demolish the building in favor of a sleek tower with apartments averaging $7,000 a square foot, according to real estate executives.
2)
Quote:
The cantilever would ensure that more of the apartments in Mr. Barnett’s building would have clear views of Central Park. If the league turns down his offer, Mr. Barnett said he would raise the height of the tower to 1,500 feet, from 1,400 feet.
I am so pulling for the denial of the cantilever!!!!!!!!

I'd like a slight cantilever which can be cool, but integrated into a better design overall...that naturally should exceed 1,500 ft.

Hell yes! Can't wait to see the redesign and more than just a massing model for the main frame.

Off-topic, check out the shitty-ass interior of the Park Lane Hotel:

Have they refurbished the rooms since 1978?

These deals are crazy. I'd say that Monopoly money is being thrown around, but a Monopoly game set only has about $15,000. Vornado just paid Barnett $194 million for a tiny lot and a garage lease. Seems nuts, but if if makes more money come in on the other side, so be it.

BTW, if the Park Lane Hotel site ($650 million) results in a tall tower, it will block a part of 432 Park Avenue's view of the Park.

It's starting to look like no site from 57th-59th near the Park is safe, aside from the landmarks. I also am reminded that neither the Hampshire House nor Essex House (front-and-center on CPS, right in from of One57) are landmarked. The former would probably be more likely to be granted that status, even on an expedited basis, and the latter has undergone some recent expensive renovations, but with $650 million being paid for the Park Lane, all bets are off. But maybe some of the more nondescript buildings from 58th-59th are more ripe for purchase and re-development.

I think 3 Columbus circle is ripe for a supertall as well... I dont care I'm pretty sure 57th street wins the race for most supertalls on a street. Maybe Sheik Zayed Road beats it, I don't know.

Hampshire House and Essex House is too much however, those can't go. Landmarking also entails transfers of air rights... which could push these even higher

Good News!

Extell and Vornado signed a deal of a compromise about building their 2 respective buildings. If the Extell idea about a cantilever will be accepted by the building next door (Art Students League) then he will build what was on the renders. If it will not be accepted then he can build higher to compensate for the loss of good views from the windows (read money on the condos) to 1500ft and higher.

7 developments in the same area

^ Should be 9 developments in the area.

220 CPS should be corrected to 920ft and Tower Verre (1,050ft) and 425 Park Avenue
(905ft) should be included in that map as well.

Another possible very tall, ultraluxury tower on 5th?

With 470,000 feet, this could be 400m+ easily.

That's on 55th -56th street! Dang.. this area is going bonkers and lets not forget the possibility of 650 Madison at 59th street! I really hope they decide to build from the ground up with these towers.

Guys. In my opinion the league will unfortunately approve the cantilever next week.

Hint: 25 million reasons.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/16/ny...Ihg6hnQ+j5JbBg

Quote:
Several years ago, he agreed to pay his 57th Street neighbor, the Art Students League, $23.5 million for its unused development rights. Mr. Barnett is now offering to pay the league another $25 million for the rights to cantilever his tower over its four-story building.
Plus, we all already know he's threatened the league he will go higher if they don't approve which some of the opposition at the hearing seemed allergic & afraid of the idea of this thing rising even taller.

Money talks & the fear walks = happy league

Hope I'm wrong, but reading this little nugget... I dunno.
