Is that still a concern with all these towers including supertalls around Central Park already?

From what I read from the Community Board, the concern seems to be more about a tower this tall hanging over a landmark building and given how Extell has been secretive about the design and considering the crap they had to deal with with neighboring One57, how can you blame them. So this is more about this specific project than tall towers around Central Park; let's remember that Extell doesn't need approval for the tower, it can go as tall as it wants to, they chose to do so because of that stupid cantilever.
Reading the board decision, I couldn't help but think, I never agreed more with NIMBYs on this decision.

Good to know they are aware of Extell's bullshit. I'm feeling pretty good about this vote. They would have to show a truly dazzling design to make the cantilever look like a positive.
it is good news indeed. Extell will now have to (probably?) redo the design and make it taller to accommodate for the loss cantilever space on the side.

So we should expect higher building with way more graceful lines than the previous lego construct

Posted by someone with a connection at SG.

It actually has many layers. I like it. Apparently, the biggest model, which shows the most detail, is in two pieces.

From SSP, at least Extell is considering extra height.

They're definitely taking into consideration 220 CPS, judging by the massing model of the surrounding area. Unfortunately, you'll see from the actual 225 models that they're pretty intent on a flat roof. No intricate crown or spire, but perhaps a crowned mechanical level, which could look alright lit up at night. At best, this building will reflect 432 Park Ave, but as a more contemporary version of the boxy design. Take all this for what it's worth. Please enjoy the pics-

The grey model is in two pieces, but seems to be the most detailed. You can see the cantilever, balconies throughout, a high-level setback and the open-air mechanical levels on top.

Nothing new here

Then there was this beauty model. ASGG won their contract with this design for the Nordstrom tower- a mix of Tower Verre and One57. I was told construction would not have been feasible because of crane logistics. No use in wondering "what if" at this point.

I'll raise Extell and Smith and Gill's grade to a D- for showing their work. Let's hope they can redo the design and get at least a C+. With the SHoP tower and Ramsa's 220 CPS, maybe they'll be forced to try harder.

Such a perfect location... such an imperfect design.

It's like it went from the business man to the engineer with no architect involved. They must vote this cantilever down.

I like the grey model. I would have been very satisfied. Looks like this (from the hearing) will be the design we are going to get especially if LM ends up miraculously approving this. The exploration of extra height, I like tho.

I like the white model to the right, looks clean and simple, but it looks like it doesn't shoot straight up, it like has different parts. If it was just shot up with that little setback on the top, i'd be very satisfied, along with 30 feet of additional height.

And i assume that is 220 CPS just for an idea of the height, its definitely a good sign that they're looking at how tall 220 CPS will be and block half of the views from this.

Looking at the top I think it is sliced at an angle which could explain the strange shapes seen at the very top earlier.

Good work as always Funky.

Obviously, i hope this goes into the redesign process, but I must say if this is the design we will get there must be 3 things..

1) I hope it will be angular like you depicted
2) they decide to go taller
3) the beauty will be in the details

Btw, as I mentioned I liked the grey model, the one that won the bid with Nordstrom. I hoped to see another design that was not in the picture. The one that was supposed to be curvy w/ 3 setbacks. Oh well.

There's been a lot of talk lately how Barnett is dictating the design in order to gain maximum profit.

But let me say this: Portzamparc (0ne57) and SHoP (111W57th) were able to design beautiful towers in a confined space while AS+GG simply can't? Give me a break. I'm sorry, but AS+GG clearly have failed, big time. If that grey model (with the cantilever) ever sees the light of day, both Gary Barnett and the architects should be sued and forbidden to develop / design a tower ever in this city again.

The white model to the right is the tentative design. This tower clearly has various tapers and setbacks. It also has various indentations I'm the facade like we've seen on the 57th St facade. This is a nice tower. It's not a blockbuster like Verre or Steinway, but it has a more complex shape than 432 Park.

It will be interesting to see what happens at LPC tomorrow night.

Yes looking fwd for the LPC hearing. What are those ridges on the sides of the model? Are those balconies?

One of the biggest issues I have with design that was revealed was the boxiness busyness going on above the Nordstrom portion.

I wish AS can simplify it, sorta like 450 Hudson Blvd, I would be happier.
