With boxes, I like a much larger floor plan, steel skeletons, and typically not the clear or blue fašades we see so often today. Curves really show off nice cladding, while angles really complement the power of modernist exteriors. It's a bit contradictory to have a design like the massing model displays.

Curtesy of Funkyskunk

I wish AS can simplify it, sorta like 450 Hudson Blvd, I would be happier.
As the models show, it's not a simple box like the massing model. It has setbacks. Also, for those not from NY, that's not what will rise on Alloy's site.

I like the white model on the right quite a lot. It appears to have significant articulation of the tower. I for one do not have a problem with the cantilever...I do not see what all the fuss is about...how can so many people bad mouth a design when you haven't even seen it? Hopefully we will see soon.

True, speaking about alloy's site, Related is in the process of purchasing the site adjacent to it and Related is also trying to buy theirs. If Related succeeds, they can assemble something rather tall there as that site "6 Hudson Blvd" if fully assembled can give Related aprox 1.6 m sf of development. That sites architectural plan is for office/ commercial use.

Today will be a big day on a couple of fronts with Midtown East zoning hearing & Extell's LM hearing.

I just hope whatever the reveal will be it won't be that boxy mess.

Extell tonight will surely show their full hand tonight and if the Cantilever is approved, then maybe the total design will be good & if not, then we will know if the design is considered to be horrid.

I hope ur right. The white looks to be decent, but honestly I cannot see anything in detail because the pic is not clear. It's hard to ascertain.

Not to mention the white one doesn't seem to have any cantilever. I believe the gray one in the middle is the most recent model of the tower.

Call me crazy, but I can clearly see a cantilever on the smaller white model. The white, clear, and grey all seem to be variations on the same basic shape.

Whether the grey is the most recent... I would have no way of knowing. The grey model looks to be an enlarged barebones version of the white.

Well then you must be crazy (or me blind), cause I can't see any on the far right white model. Can you point where you see it?

Yep...I was just in the process of drawing that. Thanks for posting it.

The massing and setbacks of both the white and grey towers match up VERY well.

Hmm..maybe. Hard to say. But there is no doubt the both models have quite different proportions. The white one is much slicker. The gray one looks closer to what we've seen at CB5 meeting. Also if there is any cantilever in white model it is much more subtle than on the gray one.

Or both models are in different scale and the gray one miss the top portion, but we can't know that.

The gray one is in two pieces. You have to envision stacking the thinner portion above the thicker portion.

Well duh! How come I did not think of that! Lol

If that is the case, it does not look like the top portion will not go angular with a twist at the top I was hoping for.

The guy who posted it even said that the gray model is in two pieces.

Such slicknesses would only be justified by proper height. I used the cantilever blueprints to calculate height for the models and yes they are tall. Assuming I didn't make any major error in measurement the gray one is around 484m tall and the white one even over 500m (smaller model - might be error in calculation). So if that design is going to look good it needs height. I'm not sure if 434m will be enough.

There's no twist but it does have the setback cut angularly. Its hard to see but it is there. The back right is longer than the front left. Mimics 4wtc.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but, why does the tower cantilever? I can't find a reason why the tower can't rise over its own plot.
