Meh, mediocore design - and that's a compliment. I'm still not convinced, I mean AS&GG surely can do better. Now let's wait for some detailed renderings which show the facade and crown.

Well it's ok. Good proportions and the height will always make it impressive. But it's nothing special for the location and height. I'll wait till I see the facade in detail but so far it's rather nothing special blue glass. We'll see but right know it beats 432 park ave , 107 and others only with height.

Truly an uninspired design. Extell and Co. had the chance of building something really great and bold here and they blew it. Going the safe way just doesn't cut it. For now, all this tower has is height. But taller towers are already on the horizon and when they begin to rise, 217W57th will be quickly forgotten due to its mediocore design.

Bravo Gary! Bravo Nordstrom! Bravo AS&GG! Bravo LPC! You did an outstanding job of creating the most boring 400m+ supertall in this city.

Am I the only one who likes the design? Sober, classy, tall and elegant. Perfect for New York imo

I'd like to just point out that the design is exactly the same (in fact same render most likely) as the one showcased at cb5 meeting. So if that one was just a filler we have to assume this is as well. Well at least I hope so.

The CB5 meeting render.

The "new" one

I was going to make the same point. That's the same massing model. That's not the final design.

Yea I agree now that Patrykus brings this up.

Funny thing I did not even notice that rendering in the video from the cb5 meeting as it is the first time I've seen that image. It was hard for me to go through that video. The new image was obviously the same image shown in that video. It's just that the quality of the video was poor. hehe.

We can still expect to see something a little different, so in the meantime I suggest that we all strap our seatbelts, hold our breaths and con't this crazy and wild ride we have undergone so far with this tower.

even if its just a massing model it doesn't strike me as bad. I'd like a rendering with the view from Central Park though...

I was going to make the same point about the massing model. But would that include such details as (what appears to be) a further cantilevered box at the top? It looks okay from the angle shown, but I would think that such a feature would be strange when viewed from the Park.

Well, even if the render of this tower is not final, I thought it would be interesting to see the four supertall towers of 57th Street together. Hard to scale them due to the different angles, but here they are:

Here they are from west to east, with a different render for One57:

I might have made One57 a little too tall in these. Once a final render for the GG+AS tower is out, maybe someone with Photoshop will do a better collage.

The square footages of each building as I have them (in order of the bottom render):

225 W 57th: 1,200,000
One57: 800,000
111 W 57th: 306,000
432 Park Avenue: 545,000

This comparison shows well that if 225 final design is anything close to the massing those three on the right surpass it design-wise by far. I hope smith+gill eventually will show us that great height goes with great architecture.

Giant boxes are fit for the prairie. (Or should I say fat, 500' boxes?). This is the same massing model previously shown, which my contact stated is not the final design.

Anyway, today is a day to praise NY's greatness since Verre was funded.

Its really a shame that the highest roof in New York is going to be the roof of a box. A misshapen box at that...

The design won't change much I fear. Look at the cantilever, and even worse on top of the tower there's another cantilever. Oh dear.

Its one thing that this tower is a box. Whats much worse is that it is a grotesquely shaped pile of boxes. It has no grace or elegance.

The massing model doesn't look that bad in my subjective opinion. I'm not exactly sure what you naysayers are looking for. Do you want something like the Shanghai Tower or some leaning spike like Hudson Yards?

Look at the right side of this picture (I'd add tour verre and beekman tower to the bunch - all better than the current massing - all lower)

It still can be much better. Great height demands it.
