I actually do believe there is a real possibility this rises 1500+.

It just makes sense economically for the developer (Extell) to do it. With 220CPS rising at 920ft a little off center in front of the Nordstrom, the more units Gary can offer with 360 unobstructed views would command mucho dollars. That means building taller offering more of those units, meaning 600ft higher worth of how many units with fantastic 360 views.

As RW had mentioned the competition is fierce with all these 57th street super duper talls, the need to set themselves apart is even more paramount.

Any idea then when there will be a final unveiling of the design? Definitely the reason I mentioned that it should stand out in the crowd, like a star lead who has the capacity to make a mark going solo. Now this Wanda deal spurred by Chinese developers...know its intended to be a world class hotel. Where is the location and any talk about how competitive it will be among our supertall forest? (It's been talked about 220 will be taller than the current plan for 920 ft as well)

Is there a good chance the design will change significantly? After all, the cantilever is a done deal I guess:

Quote:
For years, Extell had been holding up the Vornado tower, which would have obstructed views from Extell’s tower. But under a deal reached last month, Vornado is moving its tower to the west, and Extell moved its to the east, in part by creating the cantilever, so both can have views of the park, the people said.

cantilever will stay I think no matter what. They may just make all building a little less block_on_ block looking. More smooth, so to say

These renderings are older than SG's models, which have set backs, etc.

Moreover, the WSJ deleted that article from its site and did not publish it in today's paper, perhaps at Extell's urging since it's not the final design.

Good catch! It never made sense to me that AS+GG would release to the press an unfinished product. Those images circulated around was only intended for the approval of the Cantilever!!! For demonstration purposes to show at what point the cantilever would start and to give an idea what to expect in relation to the students league building.

I suspect those hi-res images were taken from the CB5 hearing and the student arts publications and obviously published as semi-official by WSJ, Curbed etc.. Heck. we were able to get those images b4 the news! lol.

As long as it will be at least 434 meters and right angled and boxy I'll be happy

The article is still on. I doubt any amount of pressure from a develloper would push the WSJ to pull out an article.

When I try to access the article from the WSJ, I get this message:

I thought those "massing models" looked like pretty much finished renderings. Truly disappointing.

here's looking at the bright side. If you liked the massing models, then whatever the finished product will be, would definitely be better! I'm sure of it! The same is true for the opposite.

Exactly. If Extell is publically stating it's still a work in progress, then all of the complaining is for naught.

P.S.: If people from outside of a place on the prairie (or many other cities other than NY) posted negative comments about developments in those other cities, they'd get banned. Nice double standard!

I don't get all that hate for prairie. It can be beautiful and peaceful sometimes.

At least it's not as offensive as the piece of art at the bottom of this article.

Nice. Although I would prefer it without the eastern cantilever, I think it's a cool design and that it will grow on people.

Could it be that the elevation of the site is 127 feet?
