14 mo if they haul ass, but 18 months is reasonable.

A letter to DOB dated May 2013 in reference to excavation. As per letter 20 months completion

20 months for excavation? Why so long? Didn't the Coach Tower take just a few months? I'm no architect but why the long time?

432 took just over a year for excavation AND footings, there was about 9 months of final demo and excavation before the first footings were poured. this is a bit bigger site but 432 still had the townhouses to bring down...here is depends on how much blasting they have to do...if they crank this up they could be pouring footings early summer

To get this ready for a 1,550 footer!

Also I big part of It could also be the Nordstrom store needing space below grade. I'm not really sure what are the details as far as Nordstrom.

If I remember correctly the plan is to dig 80ft deep. Still even with the store it is really deep.

My honest conclusion, its to support the height of a 1,550 plus building.

keep in mind the completion of the foundation work is also part of the timeframe, so both Excavation and Foundation done in 20 months.

That would be still a lot for the 400m tower anywhere else in the world. But New York has bedrock very close, hence a lot of blasting required, hence it really can take that long.

But you are mistaken that they need to go that deep to support the height of this building. Because the bedrock is so close they almost don't have to dig at all. It doesn't make any difference whether you jack the tower to the rock at street level or 80ft below it. They are only doing it because they apparently need much underground space in this tower.

Agreed with everything you said.

Like I said the reason may be the Nordstrom space below grade.

Nordstrom will be occupying 2 floors under ground and 2 additional sub-basement floors for staff/ lockers and some equipment down below.

But I still maintain that my conclusion is the 80ft deep foundation is to also support a 1,550 ft building. You see what I’m doing here? #hopingfor1550

strange...432av and also 225 West 57th Street...so there are already two buildings in nyc that are higher than the wtc1. Strange...wtc 1 is losing his "leading role" before it is finished...417m the Roof (and 541m antenna)...at the end 432av and 225 West 57th Street have the higher floors...and therefore they are the higher buildings...

Finally this one is starting

But between 1 and 2 years just for the foundation? That sounds too much to me.

Wow, finally! Nice to see this ramping up!
So just to be clear, the design is the tall thin box we've been seeing , and the final height is still undecided?

Extell stated that the design has not been finalized, nor has the height.

The WTC foundations were quite a lengthy process as well if I remember correctly.

Well, why do you think that the CTBUH rates 1WTC with its antenna at 1776 ft?

It doesn't matter how the CTBUH rates it. The building has only 417 meters in reality and that is less than 432 Park or 217 West

Kinda sucks all of next year will be spent excavating but hopefully the pace goes faster than expected and by spring of 2015 we see the first above ground floors started. Hopefully all this means we will really be getting a whopper of a tower at 1,550 ft. Just when, oh when will the final design be out?

I can't understand why so many people like 432 park( which isn't that beautiful), but so many people dislike this project. Yes, it's not a masterpiece, but it looks rather cool and iconic.
