I think this tower is New York,
strong masculine lines,
a tower that will appear to be tittering over from underneath,
rising to +1450

Nobody can like or dislike this tower as we haven't seen it yet.

No way are those shots just a m.m. There might be some fine tuning as yet, but I think that's a close resemblance of what's to come.

Re: Wbino --

You're free to disagree with Extell's own statement. It's not clear why Extell would lie to the WSJ considering that 99.99% of the people who read the column are not in the market for an apt costing $10k/sf.

Never knew this was digging into the hardcore step, already!
A tall baby soon to be born, then.
Hopefully something iconic as One WTC rises here.

Hey, welcome back. We don't know yet the final height of the building. They have permission to build a building with its highest occupied floor being at 1 550 feet, so I would estimate 1 650 feet should be the maximum the roof heigth of the tower could be. But, it could very well be shorter than that. Maybe the current 1 424 feet will be the final height, we just don't know yet

Well, if it would have its top occupied floor at 472 meters or 1 550 feet, then, judging by the heights between top occupied floor and the roof of other modern NYC supertalls, it could be up to 502 meters or 1 650 feet tall. But again, it could, and it could not, nothing's certain as of this moment in regards to height, although even the currently official height is impressive in my opinion

I'll give you some more hope. I say there is a 40% chance the height increase does not happen....

Just like my weather app, when it says 40% chance of rain where I live at least, we usually end up getting sunny blue skies!

If they build the highest occupied floor at 1500 feet, they could build a 200 foot crown on top of it like Shanghai Tower's, making it 1700 feet, and then they could add a 400- foot spire at the foot of the crown, making this baby 1900 feet. But that would be nearly impossible.

I think it's going to be 1550 feet at highest occupied floor (maybe a more realistic proposal is that they add a 30-foot parapet to make it 1580 feet). Adrian Smith is one of my favorite architects, for designing the Kingdom Tower, Burj Khalifa, Jin Mao Tower, Zifeng Tower, and Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. He has come up with some pretty high profile projects (which have had major height decreases, though). I hope that energy kicks in so we can have a 1550 foot tower.

On a more serious note, I'm just glad they finally started digging. I'm curious about the financing though. Here's an older article back from June: http://www.globalconreview.com/news/...sks-china-1bn/

Hopefully everything is lined up.

It's not economical to build that tall. Developers build to make money not for fun/dick measuring contests.

True. I wish we had a bunch of giant buildings, but unlike Dubai with its Sheik being able to simply declare that something be built, or China with its centralized planned economy being able to simply build things to sustain growth for growth's sake, in the US and elsewhere buildings have to make economic sense.
