I see it is a lot thinner without the cantilever. Why don't they put it back a bit? There is enough rooom on that site.

They can't move the core of the tower further into the middle of the site because the Nordstrom store wants their humungous open floorplates. They could theoretically make the North-South axis longer and keep the height at 1435 ft. with a thicker tower, making for bigger units... But that wouldn't do them much good, as those bigger units (or those below 1000 ft. anyway) would still have their views blocked by 220 CPS.

That view is distorted. The tower is actually more square, with the longer side facing Central Park, as you would expect. Extell wants the tower as far east as possible, to avoid 220 CPS.

Go by these images:

Regarding Nordstrom and the cantilever, I remember Nordstrom reps denying that the cantilever was due to their requirements. But it does look like placement of the support columns for the tower would impact Nordstrom. Without the cantilever, these columns would be farther west, which could intrude more into Nordstrom's retail space.

Under the proposed agreement with the ASL, Extell also has the right to move the cantilever (and thus the tower) ten feet either north or south. I'd expect them to move it north, as that brings a bit more of the Park into view around the eastern edge of 220 CPS. This would also move the support columns a bit more out of Nordstrom's space.

Why are you so focused on the cantilever ? does it have something to do with the street terrain ?

Well, aesthetically, many of us find it awkward and would rather they got rid of it. Between that, and the fact that eliminating the cantilever will cause Extell to build taller, you have two of the things that skyscraper nerds care about -- aesthetics and height -- bound together into one issue.

It looks a lot heftier and more imposing at the shorter height. At 1,550ft it looks like another 432. I wish they'd keep the girth, per se, if they do go higher.

I'd say keep the cantilever.

I don't know about the cantilever itself. I'd imagine it can be nicely incorporated in the design, but I would definitively vote no for that messy base they showed to us.

Personally, it's the only thing keeping the design remotely interesting.

I just want a great design for this... I'll even take a good design.... not that the latest render is so bad but compared to the other towers coming to the area least imaginative and artistic. If you're going to stand out don't let it be like a sore thumb.

The fact that it not as good as the other towers is because all the designs are so freakin great.

The good news is...those renderings are massing models, so there is an ounce of hope and a chance that we may all end up pleasantly surprised.

As someone who DOES have Asperger's, I find your post very offensive. Most people with Asperger's are smarter than average and are better people than average.

Get ****ed.

Well better is subjective. Are people who consider themselves 'better' really better? I highly doubt that people with aspegers are better than others in actuality.. if there was a test of that, we would be more clear. Since there is no such objective test, You are treading on dangerous water with that ludicrous proclamation sir, and I'd advise you to recant before you start a flame war. Better than the average man? I'd need you to provide proof of that. Is the genius with aspergers who invents a new cure for a disease better than the average Joe who is emotionally expressive and entertains? Debatable.

Anybody who envies NYC for its scraper development should get a grip on reality and travel a bit. You will see that scrapers are not what makes a city great. Paris isn't the most popular city for nothing. I bet even most skyscraper fanatics will concede that copenhagen is a nicer city overall than Chongqing. Envy NYC for its streets, excitement, etc.. but focusing on scraper-envy is just pathetic and hints at deep psychological issues. The whole idea of envy over scrapers reeks of 'small dick' syndrome. I would envy NYC for its energy and design variety rather than how many supertalls it gets. Then again, just don't envy at all, it's a ******* waste of time. Isn't there something better you should be doing right now? Either plan to move or just enjoy living in that one-horse town of yorus. Your time is better spent hugging kittens or something.

I will not recant simply because no test exists. In my experience, people with Asperger's are more empathetic, sympathetic, and less inclined to lie or commit a crime. There is nothing subjective about what society deems to be a "good" person.

You really didn't need to chime in, Chicago boy.
