There used to be two of them in NYC, so I think it wouldn't hurt to have another two again

Extell will build an amazing landmark here. Barnett will be competing with Torre Verre, 432 Park, and 220 CPS.

A twisted tower in NYC, that would ruin the skyline completely. Such tower doesn't fit in there.

Depends on the location, the height and the final design.
Generally i wouldn't say that a twisting tower would ruin the skyline.

The ShoP proposal was torqued.

Anyway, how many cities even have a truly torqued tower besides Malmo and Dubai.

Qatar prime minister to buy $250M of One57 condos
July 02, 2012 08:30AM
The prime minister of Qatar has negotiated deals to by about $250 million worth of apartments in Extell Development’s One57 tower, including a nearly $100 million penthouse, the New York Post reported. Sheik Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani turned his attention to Gary Barnett’s building after his bid to buy Huguette Clark’s Fifth Avenue penthouse for $31.5 million was rejected by the co-op board.
The 10,923-square-foot penthouse was already reported to be in contract for a nine-figure price north of $90 million, but the buyer’s identity was unknown. Sheik Hamad is also in discussions with purchasing four separate full-floor condominium units in the building, at 157 West 57th Street, which could bring the total purchase price to $250 million.

The Post said he had also been eying Denise Rich’s $65 million co-op, but boards were reluctant to have him as a buyer. The sheik has two wives, 15 children, armed security and a large entourage of help which board members have been reluctant to let crowd their property. [Post]

Maybe with a massive spire...

it could still be really really tall though. Something tells me it will top 1250, maybe even 1400 easily.

yeah, my guess is it will be in the 1400-1500 ft range. Maybe over 1500 with a spire. I'm hoping the Grand Central Tower will be in the same range

Agreed

As to the height, I think it might be somewhere around 500 meters

I thought this one was going to be the tallest residential in NY? In that case it has to be well over 400 meter.

No as long as the spire looks good why not add it in. It's a symbol of New York skyscrapers with spires.

We'll see if that statement in one of the recent articles is true. Since 220 CPS, which is almost in front of this tower, will be at least 200m and maybe a lot higher, Extell needs to build high.

But the most iconic NY skyscrapers like ESB, 432 Park or the new WTC don't have a spire. I think it would look just fine without it. Without a spire it'll fit more into the company of its supertall neighbours 432 Park, ESB, 157, 15 Penn, Manhattan West and the Hudson Yards

Replace 432 with Chrysler and you have the right list. They are all pointed even if they don't meet the spire definition. This tower or the Grand Central one should be pointed or NYC will be the city of way too many slanted roofs.
