WOW! they are doing some serious excavation at both sides of 58th street. Soon it would look like that you are passing over a bridge while traversing that street.

That's what I thought too! Now it's looks like a bridge, in two years it will be a canyon.

As per Newyorkyimby.com today, 220 Central Park South will now rise to an impressive 1031' and eclipse One57. Surely Extell will now be forced to "raise the bar" to ensure more unobstructed views on its higher floor apartments and thus keep this tower's original 1550' height?

A couple of posters in the 220 CPS thread have pointed out that the 1031' figure is likely the elevation and not indicative of a height change. Too bad if that's true, as I agree a taller 220 would likely push Extell to build higher.

I would not be at all surprised, given the sloping roof diagram we've seen, as well as the glimpses of those models in Extell's office. I would be exceedingly happy with a taller, sleeker version of that tower.

Now that we know 220 Central Park South is indeed "only" 950' I guess we are back to the waiting game...

He waits. That's what he does.
And I'll tell you what,

Tick follows tock follows tick follows tock follows tick.

Extell says 'I don't care who you are, here's to your dream'

Maybe it will be the full 1,550 ft. it can go.... though a lot of us got excited about the apparent jump in height for 220 Central to supertall status while others cautioned that may have been a mistake with the elevation accidentally put in that document. That caution proved to be correct and 220 still stands currently at 950 ft. Hope for the best, and the highest, of course lol... but wait before we get all excited!

Fingers, arms, legs, toes, and eyes crossed for 1,550 ft. until then, lol!

I really don't see how they could make that mistake once nvm twice so at this point I am seriously considering this as a 1,550' building in NYC. I also don't see how Gary could willingly pass up a chance at the tallest roof in the western hemisphere and second tallest by ctbuh standers. Even if that's economically not efficient I think he has the ego to do it plus the 57th street competition is becoming an insane race to the top. where most developers are building the tallest they possibly can and, this tower has the opportunity to really stand out.

The race is on precisely because it's very efficient to go very tall with expensive residences in this specific location. In most other places on Earth, yes, it would be economically inefficient.

In this case it is not a mistake, BUT that doesn't necessarily means it will go up at 1550 ft. It may go it may not.

Those 1550ft is the height they are using for over a year, and has appeared in every permit, but as it seem that they don't have the final design yet, they don't bother changing it (if they indeed need to change it, that is)

What's this thing about it being a mistake?
It's just so that they can have permission to build up to that height if they chose to
