Jesus, when is this thing going to be unveiled. This is the project I'm most excited about. The potential for this thing is unrivaled in the city. I hope it isn't the blue box, but that we see something beautiful here.

A blue box would be good.

Chicago has its black monoliths. New York can have its glass shards.

Considering how amazing 1, 4 and 7 WTC turned out, and similar world-class skyscrapers elsewhere (The Shard comes to mind) I think the smooth glass box could be in vogue.

The skyline will be truly unreal when 217, 1 Vanderbilt, etc. are added to this scene.

seeing Tower Verre that tall disappoints me, at least 111 w 57th will be tall and have an excellent design.

I think with the height of 1 Vanderbilt and being further into Midtown will make up for the height loss of Tower Verre, but it is a shame nonetheless

Very nice render. All the new 'scrapers fit into the NY vernacular. They are either modernist in style or a new take on art-deco/gothic. I would love to see some organic futurism in NYC, or some tall angular faceted skyscrapers like the Foster proposal for WTC and Hearst.

Although given the previous renders my expectations are rather low for this tower, I hope that it is something different in style than the usual art-deco, modernis, classical, gothic, etc.. NYC could do with something different. However, I expect that the finished product will not vary much from what has been shown in terms of massing.

you never know, AS+GG likes to turn out designs like you've described. Look at this 600m tower they envisioned for Dubai.

you have to take the cantilever into account for 217 w 57th though.

That would instantly be Dubais best.

Interesting to read that they use blasting with adjacent buildings so close to the pit.

They have used blasting at 432 park ave site too if I remember right. Seems like nothing unusual in Manhattan's rocky ground.

I'm back. Nice to see progress on this site and of course the other new supertall proposals. My supertall thread will be updated soon. I already updated the German Wiki page - list is complete.

Ah yes, Meeras Tower, I remember when that was proposed. I didn't know AS&GG designed that. I would love to see a similar form realized in NYC. If only 217 would be that tall- if I remember correctly, Meeras was planned to be around 1700-1800ft.

I was always a big fan of AS+GG's design for the Imperial Tower in Mumbai:

crnchy

If the main mass of Nordstrom Tower is going to remain relatively simple, I think we could do a lot worse than a version of that.

Yes... It's being prepped right now, just no renders. That happened with One57 though and it's built.

Actually, it's probably a better option for the neighboring buildings. A few second blast a few times a day versus the constant sound of a large jackhammer/boring device. Plus those Kevlar "blast blankets" do an incredible job at muffling the sound and help in keeping the vibrations down.

Does the depth of the foundation give any indication to how high the building may be?
