YIMBY doesn't bullshit... if he says he has the goods, he REALLY has them. Smart and great development mean more to him than just merely development.... remember though his site thoroughly supports development, he'll come down hard against lousy or uninspired ones.

I expect ~1,450ft and a nicer design.

Hmm 1,550' with absolutely stunning design otherwise I would not be thrilled.... maybe aqua will even like this one (I might be more impressed with that than the design)

I think Barnett will keep that cantilever. Hopefully the architects will have surpassed the previous versions (which may have been massing models after all).

Oh, and:

Of course there will be a cantilever. If there isn't I would be shocked.

I'm beginning to think this project is just one big joke and we're all getting our hopes up for nothing

I'm kidding obviously but it still feels that way sometimes.

Yeah after everything they went through with the Art Students League, Extell isn't going to do anything else. That's why I too believe this will ultimately be in the 1400s, but if YIMBY's excited, I'm excited.

I'd love to see a really nice, solid design. The height will most likely stay the same, +/- a couple of feet.

According to this article the height remains the same, tho we can't tell for sure if that includes any crown or if AS&GG are not divulging updated info. But the article's a great read about skinny towers in the city.

Why Can't We Build Skinny Skyscrapers Everywhere?

Down the road is 217 West 57th St., another supertall, superskinny Midtown tower. This isn't, strictly speaking, the project with the sharpest aspect ratio that architect Gordon Gill has ever designed. That honor belongs to the trident-shaped tower designed by architecture firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill for One Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a $95 billion—billion—mega-development planned by firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). But 217 W. 57th St. will nevertheless be one of the skinniest towers in Manhattan and the nation.

"The complexity just increases when you get slender," Gill says. "The floorplates become smaller, but the views can become really amazing."

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill is responsible for creating some of the best views in the world. The firm designed Kingdom Tower, an astonishing 3,280-square-foot tower under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. (Smith, while he was with SOM, designed Dubai's Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world.) No one boasts taller projects. And at 1,423 square feet in height, 217 West 57th St. will be New York's second-tallest building, right behind 1 World Trade Center—and only then when you count the spire.
And here's something to make us drool.

Quote:
In other words, these superskinnies are unique—a "registration of the market," as Chakrabarti calls them. "It is a typology that’s happening, no question," he says, noting that SHoP has at least two more supertalls coming to New York. "But if I look at our overall portfolio, [superskinny, supertall] is not an enormous percentage in terms of square footage."

I agree that YIMBY doesn't BS, on the contrary actually. It's just that I'm not overly optimistic because we had so many ups and downs. This project feels like a rollercoaster ride with no happy ending. And to be honest, after that horrendous massing madel it's not that hard to be positively surprised. And the height is not that special, only couple of feet taller than 432 PA and 111W.

That is exciting! I wonder if one of those supertalls will be 80 South street once it becomes official.

I'm pretty sure it is, but what is the second one?! Maybe 22 Thames, or the Hudson Spire...? We're on notice

What about that Silverstein 1,100 ft supertall on the Hudson Yards strip?

But my god I'm so impatiently waiting for an update on this tower which probably won't happen for a few days/weeks!

I think 1423 will be the final height, if the design is really good no one has any reason to complain.
