I'm thinking that YIMBY is referring to height, so we'll probably see the 1,550ft tower as originally planned. I just think that a height figure would be leaked to him before a rendering would(unless he's seen both). Either way, I'm excited again.

^ Nah, I don't think so. For now, 1,400ft (roof height) seems to be the maximum in New York. But I expect the design to be good, hopefully.

An article just posted on the NYT claims that this tower will be at least 100 stories.

“I do have a few, particularly those who purchased in the $50 million range, that are such fans of the developer they are considering his next building,” said Ms. Field, referring to 225 West 57th Street, a condominium with at least 100 stories that will feature New York City’s first full-line Nordstrom department store. That building is not set to open until 2018, “so they are going to love this building and enjoy it,” she said, “but when there is a newer, shinier, prettier gal, they may decide to cash out and go for the next one.”

Is that source for the number of floors reliable?
Because if so, then they must've reduced the floor-ceiling height as I have worked it out to be roughly 510m tall if the floor-ceiling heights were to stay the same from 434m and 85 floors?

But how does that work when the highest occupied floor is set for 1,550ft?
Or maybe that could be with the crown, and it could be '100' floors, much like 432 PA is said to be higher than what it actually is due to the mechanical floors and such?

1550ft is the height first proposed, a developer can go lower or higher depending on any design changes. And yea, he can still throw a crown or a spire on top of that.

Okay then! If so, then they should add a 32m crown on the top and it'll be taller than 1WTC pinnacle!

Not that I'm expecting that, but who knows...

Yea I'm gonna temper my expectations till we get some final figures/renderings.
Gotta say Barnett is really keeping us glued to this one, he better deliver!

This was my immediate thought. The way these buildings are marketed nowadays, floor count doesn't mean jack. It's pretty easy to see how the developers could round up from 88 -- "The Nordstrom store is six stories? Well let's say the hotel starts on floor 10, that's nice and round ... although obviously we'll have to skip 13. Hotel ends on 33, so let's say the condos start on 40 ... or hell, make it 50, since Chinese buyers don't like 4s." And so on.

Long story short, if it's not a measure of feet or meters, I'm not giving it much credence.

Well the article said One57 had 90 floors, so saying 100 really doesn't mean much, on the One57 thread it says 75 floors, 90 in the article, 85 floors on this thread, 100 in the article.. don't really think its anything to get to much excited for..

I think there's an unspoken rule that buildings can't pass 1450' in the US, at least for now, so I expect it to be "100" floors like the WTC is 104 floors and 432 park avenue 96 floors.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Edit: Lot's of people beat me to it hahaha

There was also an unspoken rule for many years in the US about not building higher than 1,250 feet as you can see that's no longer really a thing.

Let's see how they could of come up with "at least 100 floors".

Start numbering the floors at level 2 as they do in most of Europe: +1
Skip the 13th floor - unlucky number in the USA: +1
Skip all floors ending in "4" as they do in a lot of Chinese buildings: +9
Skip floors 72 through 89 as Donald Trump did when marketing the Trump World Tower: +16

Now you have a 102-story building with 85 actual floors.

432 Park Avenue is being marketed as a 96-story building. So yes, that "100 floor" figure doesn't mean anything.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a building in New York with 100+ "real floors", but I have my doubts about this one. Please make me eat my words!
