Look at the the glass on the base!

The glass heavily resembles that on the Burj Khalfia which is beautiful! I also love the indentations on the blacks bits!

The renders themselves aren't exactly the best, but I don't expect much longer to wait for more detailed/realistic renders of it!

Reminds me of 3WTC in some way.

Can we expect the height to remain? Given that this is NYC, we shouldn't take that for granted...

Extell already has the right to put the highest occupied floor at 1,550, and there will be a 950' tower in front of it. Thus, the height will remain.

450m roof is pretty solid! Finally a new tallest to the roof in the U.S. But man, that spire ... 1,775ft. 1 lousy foot shorter than 1WTC! Surely Barnett didn't want to take 1WTC's title as the city's tallest away so soon. Maybe Wanda or Shvo can do that.
And btw I quite like the fact that at least one 57th Street tower has a spire. It will be pretty recognisable.

EDIT: just read on YIMBY that those are not the actual renders but a 3D model by Otie! Great job.

Wow, i like the design, reminds me of 3 Wtc, and I also respect them wanting to keep 1Wtc the tallest in the city.

Adrian Smith Gill has really come through, considering all the circumstances surrounding this tower and the pressure of this being their first NYC project. I must say, I'm very happy with the design. Gary needed to make this project stand out with the competition and IMO, succeeds.

The two spires, the setbacks and the height for this tower will be an amazing addition and offers a nice peak amongst the towers rising along the 57th corridor. Not only that, what this will do for manhattan skyline overall, plus it will be a nice bookend to WTC between midtown and lower manhattan as well.

Props to our college Otie O' Daniel for the renderings based off from those drawings. Can't wait to see the building in more detail and I'm sure the facade will be top notch quality.

That's great, thanks Robert.

What really baffles me though is why Tower Verre, which didn't even reach ESB's roof height, got its height reduced while this tower goes ahead with total approval. Could someone explain that to me?

Amanda Burden. She thought that Verre's top wasn't nice enough to share the same air space with the ESB, so she cut the height. Of course, Mrs. Burden never gave Nouvel the chance of redesigning the top.

--------
Ad 217W: If more than 85% of the tower's usable floor space is residential (CTBUH rules), than we have a new tallest residential. I think that given the roof height of 1,479ft, it's quite likely.

I always thought that extell might sneak in a spire when Mr. Barnett said that the height figure provided earlier would be to the roof/parapet. That was vague in the possibility that there would be something beyond. However, I think that this design would look better with multiple spires alla 3 WTC or the twin antennae atop Willis Sears Tower

I love all of the setbacks too. It's like a modern version of a classic NY tower.

Nice to get a much better idea of where their going, but we still have a bit of a wait before we know the actual design, from the sound of it.

The Verrre is a victim of a different time. If it were introduced now and developer is willing to go through the entire ULURP process again, it would most definitely be approved at its original intended height but Hines is just ready to build this thing rather than delaying to build this even further.

This does have Two spires! The 2nd one is shorter. Look closely.

And she was dead quiet on any of the 57th St. skyscrapers?

Just to get this right, it will only affect the park for a very short period of time each day and not even in all seasons, right?

I knew AS+GG would pull through with an awesome design! Though I think that the official renders will have more detail and I can't wait to see it's effects on the skyline!
Also 217 pg, ironic?
