People need to start f***ing with me when it comes to TV, I saw that earlier and I thought it must've been a typo. It will be so in my head until it's proven otherwise. Zen mode!

I find that absolutely hilarious they made this just ONE foot shooter than 1 WTC's spire just so it can keep the title of the tallest. Love the design and everything about this tower so far, looking forward to more renders.

Yeah, I don't really like the precedent that sets. Would've preferred one foot taller, just to wipe out the taboo. I wonder, were they worried about offending potential buyers with the hubris of building taller than 1776? I would guess that there was some business (or PR, as it relates to business) reason behind the deferential move.

In any case, this is a really solid looking tower. Not quite what I was expecting after all the speculation about those curvy models in Extell's office, but I think it succeeds as a very masculine design. As some have said it feels like a bit of a NY/Chicago-style hybrid. What I most like is that, although it's relatively thin, the massing and the spire make it look more like an office tower than a residential.

Anyone know quite what's up with those black bands? Mechanicals?

Also, cheers to Otie for the good work on the renders. I do hope that we see an official one soon, just to get a sense of what the cladding will look like. I'm hoping for something other than blue.

Yes, black bands are mechanical floors.

I like the design. The setbacks and the two spires vaguely remind me of Walker Tower.

The metallic base is so wrong, though.

I'll bet that the spire will be illuminated with LEDs at night too.

Not a fan of design. Too boxy. Wish roof height was 1550.

It looks like a robot, but 1480' is better than I expected, I do find it weird that they purposefully did not pass 1WTC in height though.

I think this building will be a nice addition

The thing I hate is the obvious deferment to 1WTC's 1,776 foot height. I don't want it to set a precedent that developers shouldn't go higher than 1WTC. It's just so blatant there keeping it shorter than it. There really is no reason for it.

I can understand Extell may want to "respect" 1WTC. But it's a slippery slope.

I couldn't agree more, it's so dumb and childish

1,428 feet to roof is a new tallest in New York. I don't count the open parapet as part of the roof because it is just four glass walls with no roof.

I like the design, this building has everything, a fancy base, an overhang, setbacks, roof, parapet, and spire. I hope they all mesh together when it is complete.

Just like union square in Hong Kong isn't as tall as it appears and others like shanghai tower.

As for the spire not surpassing wtc1, who cares? Both are cheating spires anyway. I'd rather see a solid roof to 500m. I could care less about spires and they don't mean anything to me in terms of height.

To be fair about it being shorter than 1WTC, at least Nordtsrom's spire fits the overall design of the building, making it bigger wouldn't make much sense the way that tall stick doesn't make much sense on top of 1WTC. Now I wish they didn't blatantly avoid surpassing the symbolic height of 1WTC but the range in height of the spire seems about right.

Another thought I had is Gary Barnett might be trying to future-proof this tower from any other developer breaking it's height. If this precedent holds, then this tower remains the tallest residential in NYC. There could certainly be taller roof heights, but this would still always be the tallest.

Very shrewd Mr. Barnett...
