Outstanding. I hope we get a stellar design too and not just height.

Wow. I don't mean to jinx this wave.. but how many trophy towers can the city sustain? The market of the super rich is not infinitely deep.

According to wikipedia, there are around 1700 billionaires in the world. Porsche tower in Miami will "house" 2% of them in one, smaller, building. How many aparments does each of these buildings have? Around 200? With building cost at 5K/sq.ft, some late developments might go bust in a spectacular way. I just hope that Torre Verre gets well underway before anything sours.

Not that this need affect the NYC boom too much. The "regular" (if such a thing exists in Manhattan) residential construction market is also reaching new levels, if 520 W 41st is any indication.

l think l read somewhere that time warner center was losing tenants to ONE57 so l would imagine that the same will probably happen once Nordstrom is complete.

"Respecting" the 1776 figure sounds dumb as hell. This is why aliens don't visit us. It's a number get over it. Since it's only a spire I'm not as upset. But had it been roof height 1775 out of "respect" I would be throwing my feces at my wife.

After the tallest building in NYC with a vastly improved design was announced, the most common reaction on his forum was endless and pointless bitching and crying about why it's roof is not taller and why the spire is not 2 feet taller.
Keep up the good work lads!

That's all most people seem to do, bitch. They can never see the good in anything, with the exception of a few and you all know who you are

Oh, I thought he meant in the world, if he meant that a taller one in NY is on the way that would be just awesome! Almost unbelievable.

OK positives. Taller than I expected, has setbacks, and they put a spire on it. Should have been symmetrical with some art deco elements like its neighbors though.

Preventing 432 from being the tallest in midtown is its greatest accomplishment.

While I'm very occasionally guilty of this to a small degree I must say this and most other NY projects are awesome, nothing to complain about at all.

Wow, great design. It's not showy but it does have that monolithic, dominant aura that other icons have. And the height is superb! How many people here expected 1,775ft? Even the most optimistic were shooting for 1,550ft. An all around great day for New York.

A spire on each corner, or at least twin spires would look better.

I may not be too pleased with the design but it will nonetheless be a great addition to the skyline. More importantly looking at this graphic, you can't help but appreciate the diversity of the towers being built on 57th st, not to forget the likes of Hearst, neighboring Citigroup and the Pyramid on its edge. This is gonna be a marvelous part of the skyline for sure.

Sorry for OT - but I wonder if 250 E 57th Street will have any impact on the skyline at all (and be a interesting / worthwhile design for that matter).
