This 'spires' thing is really starting to get out of hand...but what a great new building for New York though!

Great work!! Question though, will it really appear as visibly taller than 432 Park or the Steinway Tower?
I think 250 e 57th will be noticed but won't have much of an impact, as far as the design we still don't know what it will look like.
And yea Nordstrom will be visibly taller than both Steinway and 432 Park, spire or not, depending on your angle of course. After all there's a 129 ft and 83 ft difference respectively between those towers and this one.

Thanks!...Well 225 west 57th street is higher above sea level (I believe over 20 feet) 57th street goes downhill going east; and also I took the shot from the west, it's the perspective

This current version of the design is both bland and too busy. The cutouts, black bits, setbacks and overhangs don't cohere at all. The spire is a pure afterthought and doesn't relate at all to the rest of the structure (much like 1WTC). The rest of the new skyscrapers are far more elegant, even 432 Park.

That rendering is beyond. Great job! The impact on the skyline is tremendous.

The black strips are about the only thing I'm really not feeling (aside from the base, but that might look different once new renders are out), but perhaps they can be lit up at night which will make them more palatable.

I agree. These here look more like the spires on Willis tower, which are not the best IMO.

I think there are some nice compromises here. The tower doesn't blow you away design wise, but it's still nice and much better than it could have been. The height as well (to the roof) won't blew anyone away, but you do have a nice spire on top which will give it a nice official height, and will help it look taller than it is.

Not bad at all. ...

9" shorter than the Hong Kong ICC!! Oh well can't win em all and with the spire it's taller. I am super excited about the design though, I think that the renders won't do justice to the towers design and impact.

Is that 9 feet you are saying?

HK ICC is 484.0M to roof, this is 450M to roof, so significantly taller. A spire makes no difference AFAIC becaue it is so spindly.

However, it's taller than anything else in HK, and would be the 3rd tallest in Shanghai. Tallest in the Western Hempisphere

Should appear a bit taller given the height of the parapet is nearly 35 m taller. Also, since the parapet will appear a continuation of the building in comparison to the see-through ring on top of WTC1 should help that

I must say though, that spire is a joke. It's a dirty marketing trick to keep the title of tallest residential tower in the world for a few more years. Spires should not be counted ever in official height rankings. It's just ridiculous. Especially a spire that is this thin like an antenna. It's still a hilarious and embarassing joke that WTC1 is the 4th tallest in the world right now.

I'm a bit late to the debate since I had a lot of work in the last days, however let me say that with the current design this building is gonna be the second most beautiful building on the planet, second only to the Willis Tower. It is the purest form of an architectural masterpiece. The angles, the setbacks, the simplicity, all are breathtaking and present the absolute pinnacle of what architecture should be about. No other building in NYC, planned or built comes even close to this masterpiece, not even 432 Park. This new design came as an absolute shock to me, a very pleasant shock. I wasn't expecting something this beautiful to be here. I had fears that it would be something tacky, but this design is just beyond words. I think it are buildings like these that should be in architecture books for centuries to come because this is perfection

As to the height, it is amazing. It is taller than 1WTC, which was a must in my opinion and it will be even the tallest building in the US if it will be built earlier than the Chicago Spire or Post Office redevelopment in Chicago. I would be quite mad about the spire height being 1 foot less than 1WTC if I cared about spire heights, however I couldn't care less about how tall the spire is. For me this is a 1 479 foot tower and I am very impressed by that height and am perfectly happy with it as it is

To put the long story short:

I was made for lovin' you Nordstrom
you were made for lovin' me
and I can't get enough of you Nordstrom
can you get enough of me? ........

Significantly taller? A 484 meter building is hardly taller than a 450 meter building. 100 feet between ~1500 foot buildings is not a big difference at all.

1480 feet is pretty much unheard of outside of North America and Asia (Russia too I guess)
