Who cares if its the tallest or not, you act like its a life or death situation. At some point we thought this would end up 1200 ft and green, so why all the bitching about a height increase boggles my mind.

New rule.
When people bitch about a design they need to provide detailed drawing of their next building masterpiece.

When could we expect official renders to be released?

Because it's 1775 feet tall. That's no accident. It's chosen to be shorter than 1WTC, flying in the face of everything that skyscrapers have represented for over a century of American design and engineering.

In the past, skyscrapers fought tooth and nail to be the tallest. Chrysler versus Empire State? Sears versus World Trade?

The history of skyscraper construction has been one giant hand over fist race to the top. Not every skyscraper can be the tallest, of course, but 225 could have been. Instead it chose to be shorter for political reasons.

To me, that's not what skyscraper construction is about. They're inspirations. They're glorious monuments to man's daring and guile. You don't build hundreds of meters of building just to stop one foot short of the record.

People have died to try and achieve that record. That record means something. It should go to the person willing to make it happen. It shouldn't be gifted to 1WTC out of some kind of mawkish 'honour'. That kind of negative thinking is the main problem. The boring, hodge-podge design is merely the final nail.

l understand and agree but not every developer feels that way and someone whether its Shvo or another will break that plateau. Even though this is not an official render l think its a definate improvement over the massing study so l'm confident that we will get something worthy of the skyline.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but 1,775 feet! Oh my oh my oh my. On ctbuh:
http://www.ctbuh.org/News/GlobalTall...-US/view.aspx#!

This is BIG. And I KNEW there was going to be a tower in New York at 1775 feet! So happy! Deeply sorry if this has been posted before.

I think you can see a little bit of spire in that photo. And I'm glad that this one has new cladding but stays true to the original. (It's a new design, right?)

And also on New York Yimby:

The design is AMAZING. And world's tallest residential! Take that, World One! And it's not going to be surpassed for a while, if I'm not mistaken.

Wow. Please take this discussion elsewhere...

What exactly does the American Dream have to do with this tower??

Oh yeah, nothing.

I hope they refine the placement of the spire. I think 4 spires is overkill but I'm not sure I like the current placement. It looks odd in the model. Move it to the middle of the tallest portion of the tower, not the side.

I'd probably move the spire to the middle of the tower.

I think it looks perfect the way it is. And I never realized it was 4 spires, not two.

I think the spire looks perfect the way it is. The clustered spires will give a Bank of America spire or Bloomberg antenna kind of look. Love it!

The 1,775 feet height is just an attempt to future proof against another tower going higher. I think Extell is just hoping another developer won't try to beat 1WTC. There are only so much air rights to buy along this corridor. So I think 225 is going to be King of 57th Street for a long time.

Maybe another developer will go higher somewhere else in Manhattan. But I think Extell is hoping others will show deference to 1WTC. It's a shrewd manuever. But I doubt it will work. I certainly hope so anyway.

That's an interesting way to look at it. Very Machiavellian. Basically, by showing deference to One WTC (by a mere 2 inches, by the way), Extell is saying that anyone who does go taller is being disrespectful. It puts the onus on that developer to take the flak for it, hopefully discouraging them from exceeding 1776 ft.

Fortunately, most developers are too smart to fall for a ploy like that; much less give a shit about some misguided sense of patriotism.

If that turns out the be why Extell went with 1775 ft., hats off to Barnett -- that's a hell of a piece of gamesmanship.

Yes, it apears to be so. With this 1775' Extell just bought monopol to second place. It would be pathetic thing if in the future, list of tallest buildings in New York Will look like this:
  1. WTC1 = 1776'
  2. Nordstorm t. = 1775'
  3. tower#3 = 1774'
  4. tower#4 = 1773'
  5. tower#5 = 1772'
  6. .
  7. :

2. Nordstrom Tower- 1775'10"
3.tower 3- 1775'9"
4.tower 4- 1775'8"
5.tower 5- 1775'7"
