Children,

all this cry about the spire being 2 feet shorter than One WTC`s is beyond annoying and pathetic.
This building is going to be built for billionaires not skyscraper geeks. You will never see it from the inside, except maybe on photos and renderings. Ever.
A super wealthy buyer will appreciate the insane ceiling heights and views from the apartments, the exclusivity of living in the tallest residential building in the world, unbelievable amenities etc... but would not give a rat`s ass about how tall the spire is and most likely will have no idea about how tall T1`s is anyway. This is not what those people care about.

The idea that because of this from now on there will be no taller towers than T1 in NYC is dumb. Tower One was just finished, it hasn`t even opened yet, and this particular developer decided that he`ll let them keep the tallest spire in the City for the time being. There are many other developers who will not care about this at all and would build taller in a heartbeat.
Stop crying about it!

Yes i thought of that too, but i didn't know how many inches fits to one foot, so i listed without inches....
However, this could be new architectural standard, called Manhawttanage.FAA

12 inches in a foot. If you don't know, you can always look it up on google.

Well, for the people disappointedthat the spire is one foot shorter than 1WTC, think about this, this tower sits on one of the loftiest places in Midtown, while 1WTC is almost at sea level. So this one has an advantage of about 20 meters or almost 70 feet over 1WTC as seen from away.

By the way, I am glad it has a spire, they look pretty good un NY.

I think people are more disappointed that they are creating a precedent that no future tower can be taller than 1776 feet. It creates an artificial ceiling that, hopefully, won't catch on among developers. Otherwise the height of this tower is good.

And yes, I am personally a fan of the spire as well

Damn Robert, you don't need to post that many pictures, my poor PC can barely handle it.

I'm all for preserving old buildings too but only to a certain extent, if new, shiny skyscrapers replace them then that's just the cycle of skyscraper life. Obviously buildings like Woolworth, Chrysler etc. need to stay forever though.

I would have preferred preserving these buildings, but for those who fear the loss of old buildings in NY, these are just grains of sand on the beach. Consider this small sampling of blocks on 5th and Madison from 17th to 41st Sts., which is a tiny part of a Manhattan.

I can't say that I'm overly fond of this design, it looks a bit messy and like there has been very little effort put into the design.

On topic though:

I think there are some good things going on with this tower. First of all there's no doubt it will be dominant on the 57th street. One57 is dwarf next to it. Then it's boxy - going this way makes it way easier to design at least an "ok tower" which it is. An uninspired organic design could be much worse. Generally I don't think the design is as bad as some says but it just doesn't seem good enough for a tower which is going to dominate the skyline like this one. One would think special place in skyline deserves special design. I hope the cladding will improve my opinion because right now this is the thing I like least about it. Next thing is the arrangement of the elements in this tower is somehow messy. Many people have mentioned that, so there must be something more to it than just my subjective opinion. Well maybe some proper cladding can still fix it.

due to nyc zoning the towers are always going to be spaced out like that and no clsutered because of air rights. i think it looks good spaced out and not crowded like dubai marina.

I don't think the HS will be that tall now, sorry to say It cold be a big fat shortish box. We don' know yet

Nicely done. But isn't 111 a bit too narrow?

The building is not that awesome with it's clucky design but is inspiring for height 'lone. I hope the designs on the offical render will be far far better.
