I'm pretty sure it really is that skinny! Isn't it like half the width of One57 from that angle?

Also those edits are amazing! These buildings really will set a new layer of skyscrapers, it really does look like something from a science fiction film!

That's also a nice design for the Hudson Spire btw

Also it won't even be 'New York 2024' more like 2019!

You're right, but after some thought I thing it's simply too tall on that render, hence the impression of wrong proportions. Look at the 432 park avenue. It has the same hight but appears significantly lower.

It is very slender, only 60 ft wide.

The tower is very impressive in height but needs design refinement. I hope the materials are better than shown in renderings.

Yes, but it seems too tall on that render. Both 432 pa and 111 west 47th are pretty much in similar distance from the camera so they should appear equally tall on the render and that isn't the case since 111 seems clearly taller than 432park avenue. Maybe that's land elevation that makes for this difference, but I haven't checked it yet.

Ugh, I really can't stand to see another spire in NYC.
1WTC, ESB, BOA, Conde Nast, NYTT, Chrysler, One Vanderbilt, and this one now too. A few spires are fine, but this is getting excessive. And worse, it looks like the same thing 1WTC did- a tacky, fraudulent, add-on that contributes almost nothing to the design.
The height and design, aside from the spire aren't bad, but then again, they're not great. Overall, I can't say I'm surprised in any way about what is going to be built.
Regardless, a new tallest for the USA to the crown can never be too bad.

These renders are really disappointing to me. With such a large building I thought they would do something more distinctive - interesting shapes, colors, etc. Even One57 which is also by Extel seems more interesting than this. This is a glass box that looks WAY to much like the Willis Tower.

Love the height but don't care for the design. I guess we'll have to get our esthetic senses satisfied by the other towers rising on Billionaires row.

They're not THAT many spires, though I'd like some more nice crowns. But I like the design and spires on this one.. I do think for the most part people will really like this design(don't forget this design is an approximation and not the officially rendered one by Extell) and once it's built it will be fairly quickly taken in to the hearts of the public as iconic. It's elegant and stately, soaring magnificently higher than any residential tower in the Western Hemisphere with both futuristic and traditional vibes.

after some thinking, this tower would be perfect for Chicago. I hope official renderings will be released soon so we can see the finer facets of the design.

I'm so amped up with this tower with this design. Worlds better than that previous boring massing. The shape, setbacks and the spire is a great addition. The spire allows this tower to differentiate itself amongst the B row towers along with it's height increase. This tower has a bit Chicago in it imo and I like this for a change for NYC.

Obviously, we need to see some official renderings that will show what the façade will look like but with Smith Gill, I'm sure it's going to look sweet.

Re: Black Panels bands:
From the schematics and Oties rendering, we don't exactly know what they are. Maybe they could be like 432 Park open resident space mech floors which I doubt since those bands are facing East.

I think we will get something more in line with Trump Chicago's that could be colored black or possibly in brass like Trumps.

here are some diagrams obviously not entirely accurate.

New DOB filing states the building will be 1,550', so I think that we can count that figure out.
The file was submitted for scaffolding stairs.

It doesn't mean anything at this point, unless Extell plans to build a tower with a roof height over 1550' and that would require the developer to submit a revised one reflecting that.

A roof height of 1479' would not require a new application. 1550' is the maximum allowable for this permit.

I think someone just talked sense into them. to have such an opportunity and big space and build something as mediocre as was proposed originally - would be a travesty.

Just browsed through the thread and found this:

Regarding the shape of the tower, there will be 3 setbacks.

...
Yes, more like a mix of the Hudson Yards Equinox Tower and Trump Tower Chicago, but still unique.
So this James guy was on to something. Pity he went offline. The design and the height most certainly changed, but it's not that different from his description.
