I can't take a position right now because there are valid arguments on both sides, and it doesn't matter anyway because we'll find out soon enough, but I would slightly prefer that they didn't change the design than if they did.

I don't think the current diagrams do justice to the building. We've mostly just seen some google earth images. The one rendering we had was looking up from West 57th. But I wouldn't mind if they changed the design just a little. It would still keep its boxy but elegant form.

I like the cladding, mostly the vertical fins on the main facade. I think that some people don't like the tower because it looks too boxy. And I actually agree a little, especially if you're looking at its profile.

If Extell were to change the design, I would like more tiny setbacks along the side of the building and the part that cantilevers with the special black floors.

This:

Looks different from this:

I understand why people think this is ugly, but I hope the renders shine some light on the design and then we can decide to judge it a little more accurately.

At least a large part, but there are still diggers inside.

Indeed!
This is exactly why both Silverstein and Extell needed to come to agreements for the positioning of the towers, and also why Extell opted for the cantilever

So does this mean they're both officially under construction?

Technically both this and 220 CPS are u/c, but my personal preference is not to label a building u/c until there's a crane on site and columns rising.
We all remember back in 2008 when there were a bunch of sites with the foundation done and rebar up that ended up standing still for a few years. Not saying it will happen here but don't wanna jinx it.

I disagree with Ghostface. Foundations are U/C regardless of whether construction continues after they are completed or not.

Isn't it U/C when there's rebar? I think I see rebar for 220 but not for this one.

There are different opinions as far as what defines a building u/c or not, you will find different definitions depending on who you ask or where you look. The general consensus seems to be a building is under construction when foundation is being poured and rebar is being set.
So technically this could qualify as u/c but different stages of building require different permits, different contractors are involved and sometimes even different financing schemes so again my personal opinion, which is totally arbitrary is not to call a building under construction until it's actually rising.

I feel as though its only a matter of time, perhaps a couple years, before we see a proposal for a 2000 ft tower in New York. The verticality and diversity that New York is headed for is amazing: these are exciting times.
A decade ago Nordstrom tower would've been the worlds tallest building upon completion
