You have no idea what it will look like once built, the very rough drawing do not dictate how this will end up looking once actually built.

I think you are mistaken as to what Art-Deco is.

there is nothing art deco about this building. If anything, it is a mix of post-modern and international style.

(It's in Pending Approval Section)
I liked the skinny one better, the wider one makes it look like an office tower, but nice work.

I believe he is referring to the setbacks steps that resemble old art deco buildings. Which in that case, then it has a vague resemblance, but only in shape. Architecturally no, it is not art deco.

So are they afraid to build the spire higher than 1 WTC or why 1 foot shorter ? Out of respect ?

It'll be very nice to follow yet another record roof rising to New York so soon ! Let's hope for EarthCams too...

IMO, New York is cheating with the hight of the towers. They build a 417m tall tower (OWTC) and install a 130m antenna on the WTC and call it a 540m tall building.
Nordstrom Tower cheats with its hight too. Now, it's 100m taller because of the antenna...
There are many other examples in NYC(Bank of America Tower, Empire State Building, New York Times Tower, ...)

That's like saying the Burj Khalifa or Kingdom Tower are cheating with their heights.

Kind of like Petronas, Jin Mao, Emirates Towers, Burj Khalifa, Taipei 101, Bank Of China Tower just to name a few.

Obviously there are lot's of spires popping up in NY but buildings like 432 park, the HY Tower and some of the other huge flat tops will balance that out.

~1480' is still a really impressive roof though, that's higher than the ESB antenna.

Everyone "cheats", almost all Dubai residential towers have some kind of crown and/or spire. In fact, there's only one building in Dubai with a roof height >400m, the BK!

So far this is the only residential tower going up in NYC which will have spire.

PS: ESB's antenna doesn't count anyway.

I think that it is absolutely ridicolous to consider antennas and ghost floors in the skyscrapers. It is the time to change the evaluation criteria !!

Please take the 'Roof height vs. Spire height' discussion here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1672679

Spare the rest of us here from the never-ending circuitous debate. Additionally, if you are so consumed with effecting real change, feel free to build your new tower with or without a spire.
