I like this building, it will be the tallest to the roof in New York City.

They are. But Burj Khalifa (and soon to be Kingdom Tower) are still impressive buildings to the roof and structures to the spires.

One thing: There's a difference between architectural spires / crowns and antennas, which have nothing to do with the architectural design of the building...

-------

How tall is NT up to the roof?

About the height... Does anyone know why it's designed 1 foot shorter than 1 WTC ? Is it just a coincidence or is it on purpose ?

The architect did it on purpose out of "respect". I guess he wanted 1 WTC to have it's moment in the spotlight for a while.

It was done very much on purpose. He wants to future proof it against anyone else from building taller. Extell is daring them to go higher than 1WTC.

It isn't about "respect". They want the title of tallest residential for as long as possible.

It seems the most likely theory is that Extell made the gesture deferring to 1 WTC in order to set a precedent. It's about deterring competitors from building taller.

If they were to build it to 1777 ft., then the symbolic seal would be broken, and there'd be nothing stopping subsequent developers from building to 1778, 1779, etc. But by shining a light on something that was previously a non-issue, it's basically saying, "Anyone who dares build taller than 1776 isn't paying their due respect to 1 WTC."

So in short, it seems to be a ploy to retain the tallest residential title at least until Extell can start selling units. We'll see if it works for long.

DubaiM'

IMO, New York is cheating with the hight of the towers. They build a 417m tall tower (OWTC) and install a 130m antenna on the WTC and call it a 540m tall building.
Nordstrom Tower cheats with its hight too. Now, it's 100m taller because of the antenna...
There are many other examples in NYC(Bank of America Tower, Empire State Building, New York Times Tower, ...)

Well,i have been there a couple days just because it was on my way to Maldives. In the US Dubai would be an amusement park nothing more. How dare you compare a world city like NY with a flashy playground for bored mega rich? How dare you writing that NY is cheating just because you are an ignorant?New York is the Mecca of architecture and has NOTHING to prove.
Spires are NY(GOTHAM!) architectural signature, and all of the best world renowed architects are competing and fighting to work in NewYork.
I will without doubt go to NY for One WTC observation deck grand opening and will enjoy magnificent and amazing views but all that i saw from Burj kalifa are camels defecating in the sand...

This is too conspiracy theory oriented for me to agree with. It's simply a classy choice on an insignificant detail (antennae height) that were it taller would add zero value to the project.

Heh, I get it, although if it turns out to be true, it wouldn't be a conspiracy, just a shrewd business maneuver. But we'll probably never know for sure.

Article says that 4.63% of New Yorkers are millionaires. That works out to 389,100 millionaires in NYC.

Second for billionaires, too. Moscow recently reclaimed leading city for billionaires, but with all the hoopla in Crimea, I've heard many are looking at leaving, so NY may reclaim that title as well.

So is it Nordstrom Tower or...

...Nordstorm Tower like in the opening page...?

My guess is the first... (although I like the second )

Is it the official name, Nordstrom Tower ?
http://newyorkyimby.com/2014/07/nord...ilding.html/1#

If so... Why is it not in the thread title ?

Nordstrom is anchoring the tower with a flagship store on the first few floors, hence "Nordstrom Tower" which also has a nice ring to it.
Its current official designation is 225 west 57th. The address is 217-225 west 57th.

also, Nord storm sounds like a cool ship name.

I don't believe NYC planners should restrict future growth by not allowing new buildings beyond 1,776 feet tall. If the symbolism of 1WTC's height is that important, then have a standing policy of rejecting any proposal that is designed at 1,776 feet to roof or spire. All proposals have to be at least a foot shorter or taller.
