I love how this is squeezed between two buildings, it really gives it perspective and makes it look tall. Unlike the buildings in Dubai and China which are placed far from the road and other buildings.

I'd like to see the other side where it goes straight up from the street with no setbacks, just pure hight.

Ground here is too expensive for big podiums or gardens .

Yea, I don't recall ever, so I better revel in it now with the open lots of 220 & the Nordstrom. Lol

Re: Nordstrom sign

I also think it's graffiti, but I'll swing by tomorrow morning and check.

NYC is one of those cities where building tall is also a necessity rather than pure vanity. Impressive view.

I doubt that this is going to be the final design for 217 west 57.

I mean like remeber all the redesign changes 111 west 57 went through, 217 only went through three changes. And don't get me started on 35 Hudson Yards.

In true honesty - this is a horrible trend, those supertalls and superskinnies... There in no harmony there at all, the proportions are all off. They will make the city look choppy and disorganised.

That's what you get when greed is the only value.

lol, by that reasoning you just described every skyscraper in New York. The same thing has always been said about new tall buildings.

In the end I can see Marco Polo's point, because the proportions of these new skinny supertalls are uncommon to the skyline of the city. Nevertheless they are all speculative objects like most of the buildings of Manhattan, so there is some kind of continuity.

Those were also uncommon, skinny and tall:

Exactly. I'd even argue that the proportions of the new skinny supertalls are much closer to those classic New York towers than any we've seen since the 20s and 30s. Even if not every design we see is a gem, the trend is steering the skyline back towards that very Gotham-y look with all its steep peaks and valleys.
