I disagree with Your comment re: symbolism.

Thanks, but I don't need a history lesson... or a current events lesson.

Extell, this is what you get for taking forever to come up with a final design. Forum food fights!

Take a close look at my very grainy image from September 11th. This is about the most recent progress. The excavators are down to about 50-60 feet below grade, probably the maximum depth, and are now digging the entire hole to that depth. Once that is done, any additional piling should be completed soon and then the concrete slab will be poured for the foundation.

No piling for this building. It's sitting on solid bedrock. They'll drill holes for steel tendons to anchor it into bedrock.

Yes, leaked diagrams show the final design. The screenshots published on YIMBY belong to architectural/glass contract documents. The Architect in record made the drawings available for potential facade contractors during the bidding process.

There's disAgreement about that. Barnett stated that Yimby 's diagram is not the final design. Also , the most recent DOB figures were for tower that was about 60' taller and had 4 more floors.

If Gary is bluffing, and this is the design, I find it to be quite nice, but only time will tell.

The tower does look of AS GG design but I can't think of any towers done by them that are boxy. Though this is NY and most of their designs wouldn't really fit well. In the end I hope we see something of a similar design but a little taller wouldn't hurt!

I do think the basic essentials of the design are the YIMBY leaked one but there are tweaks and it appears they are going with some additional height...it's the dress rehearsal but the actual show has yet to open. It will though basically resemble what we saw released... that's my prediction since Extell has yet to release the final rendering at the site.

From what I hear the final design is almost identical to what Otie rendered.

Almost probably alluding to a possible small(but significant) bump in height and a few cosmetic changes but I'm very satisfied and happy with the news. It's a very graceful, very New York kind of tower and I think we all will anxiously be awaiting the point in construction where its immense impact on the skyline will become readily seen.

We've seen that the most recent filings list it at 92 stories, and 1,490' to the HOF. If we add an extra 50', eg, for the parapet, it takes us over 1,500.

Yep, it would take us to the 1,550ft that Extell gave as the maximum height they were considering. I wonder what that does to the spires? Will they still stick to a hard and inflexible 1,775 ft, to keep deference towards the symbolic height of WTC1?
