Pouring concrete means U/C I think.
I would love to have a look into the pit.

I'm not 100% sure on the forum rules for moving to u/c, but if they're really using the existing schist for the foundation, then anything they're pouring seems like it has to be part of the tower, right?

Maybe they're pouring a retaining wall, which isn't part of the building.

Don't get me started on that last sentence. Let's just cap the WHOLE skyline at 1,776ft right? Like forever?

That sounds like a form of 'respect' to 1WTC, it's not official, but they're deciding to take that route!

Also, it seams as though we're going to have to wait till March next year then at least to see the first official rendering!
But it does sound like this will stay 1,775 feet which is good!

Developers don't want to go over 1775 ft? That's fine. I'll take a tower 1775ft to roof .

If they wanted to correlate the height of 1WTC with the date of a historic event they should have picked 2001

Let wtc have 1776 and Nordstrom can have the next war, 1812.

Interesting. I would be ecstatic for ~1775 and that comment is reassuring.

TBH, I'm not at all surprised with this "unwritten" agreement. The WTC had just been completed for crying out loud and needs its time in the sun considering what it really means to the city and the nation.

All it means to me that it's not set in stone and maybe in a few years something would be aloud to eclipse it. Think of it as a moratorium for a couple years to just allow the WTC to reign supreme.

Pretty much this. In the future, I'm sure we will see something taller than 1,776', just not now, and out of respect. 1WTC or "Freedom Tower" has been in the works for a loooong time now, and the general public knows it's height as 1,776, which has already been stated, in the USA, is a very patriotic number. 1WTC, for a lot of the general public, especially in NYC, somewhat gives closure, to a horrific day in our history, and kind of stands as a big middle finger to Terrorists. I know this is tough for a lot of you to understand or even give a crap about, but it is what it is

Ugh that would be so cheesy to leave it at 1776 ft...

How 'bout switching to Metric? You could take American history back to 985 and still build awesomely tall buildings honoring it.

Why not they keep pushing the envelope? Try 1781 next, then 1788, 1789, 1803, 1812, 1861, etc. This could be a BOON for the NYC skyline if they weren't so feeble-minded!
