Even though it can often be garish, I wonder when a major skyscraper in NY will get some LED exterior walls. Can you imagine how impossibly amazing the Nordstrom Tower would look if it glowed, and not just from the interior lights.

I know that. But when One 57 was undergoing groundwork, some enterprising forumers took pictures through small gaps in the fences. I was hoping for something similar to that here.
And I do agree with you, it would be very if Extell would install a webcam. Hopefully they will once construction picks up above ground.

that was the plan for 111 w 57th before it went supertall. I don't know if they're still planning on doing something like that. I don't think it's necessary for this building because of its sheer height, and 111 w 57th, though tall, is really skinny.

Those kind of lighting schemes are unlikely for a residential tower since they would bother the residents much more than even some of the more subdued crown/spire/facade lighting we've talked about. Not impossible for an office tower though.

However, I'm sure any such tower would have to get all kinds of variances, or exist in a special sign/billboard district. A lot of Times Square is basically a wall of LED and neon lights, so if it were going to happen anywhere, my bet would be there.

I agree as that would be very doubtful. I would be 1 annoyed hombre. I can't even stand having the lights on my terrace if its not in use.

Let's hope Nordstrom gains some more height ...

Future NYC Skyline 2018 by cityrealty_nyc, on Flickr

For now it's 1,490 to the HOF. Could be indeed be 1,550ft.

57th Street will be one amazing street !... With 432 Park Avenue and One 57 already there with bunch of other great buildings like the Solow -> as they will soon be accompanied by the Nordstrom and Steinway (111 West 57th Street) towers ! I also love the 625 W.57th St. (Pyramid) that is under construction and nearly topped out already at the western end of the 57th Street... (can't wait to see them all next summer !!) One of the most amazing streets on the planet !! -> Street 57 W-E. 'the Canyon street'.

I love how tiny 220 Central Park(950ft) looks next to all these behemoths.

Nice! There will be so much going up soon, including this one! The digging has progressed really far, and they are still digging!

I really wish that Lee's Art Shop would clean their windows every once in a while. They are really nasty, but it is otherwise a great store! Its worth a trip even if only for the light fixtures on the second floor! They really put MoMA to shame by comparison!

I don't know about you guys, but in those future skyline renders.... Vanderbilt really steals the show in my opinion. That bad boy has some real mass to it.

I love how each of our NYC giants have different textures and contrasts that play so well together... and no doubt we will get a few more added to the mix before too long.. Park Lane,31 W57, and the property on 57th being discussed here plus the Shvo tower potentially. Gorgeous renders and angles!
