By roof/pinnacle height it'll still be one of the world's tallest. Nothing to be upset about although I know the whole 'don't pass 1776' is dumb

I'm perfectly fine with the height of the tower, just hoping it doesn't stifle development in the future of taller buildings

Well it'll have the title of tallest roof outside of Asia... I think.

The Sears Tower will still have the highest occupied floor however. This tower's "roof" is actually below the Sears Tower, but it has wings on all four side that eclipse the Sears Tower by a significant margin.

You can see here that these wings form a bit of a pit.

That being said, I think this design is fantastic. The cantilever is impressive, and the setbacks create a great streamlined effect.

We don't know high the highest occupied floor will be in Nordstrom. I suspect that it will be higher than Sears'.

we know the 'outs' but we still don't know the 'ins' of this tower. When that diagram you posted came out the parapet topped out at 1478', and we know from the DOB filings that the parapet height is now at least 1490'. I don't think that the highest occupied height or floor has been disclosed as of yet

I thought the latest is 1550ft now.

Um, first off, a parapet is a roof, or is just as good as one to me, since many skyscrapers in the world, especially newer ones have one. Second, you're referring to the old design in which the parapet is 29' higher than the Sears tower's box (how that's a "significant" margin is beyond me).

The DOB filings have been changing and we've recently seen 1490' and now 1550' with a floor count of 94 (most recent).

I think the 1550 filings are erroneous and are based on the initial design. I think that the question now is whether 1490 is the top of the parapet or the HOF.

In Yimby's schematics the 92nd floor was around 1,428', and the parapet was around 1,478'.

Perhaps, but the floor count is now listed at 94. Also if the solid roof is at 1490' the parapet would be about 1550' using the same proportions as before. 1490' for the highest occupied floor seems like a bit of a stretch but never say never.

I don't know why the DOB filings would be wrong though, don't the people who file these things know what they're doing? Not saying human error isn't possible but those things at least seem pretty official.

Is the floor count now 94? If so, that would explain some height increase. It will be nice when Gary pulls the wraps off this gem.

to pinnacle #9 and to roof #15 according to SSP. It is amazing to think about how 1WTC became the third in the world and this will get kicked out of the top 10 of tallest towers only one year after completion. The world has become an awesome place with so much construction worldwide!

I pointed out these wings because I recall seeing designs where the actual building stopped below the Sears Tower roof height and these wings kept rising past it. I'm not saying it isn't the roof, I'm saying that it was an odd architectural element that didn't really seem necessary. However, if current redesigns indicate that this is taller than the Sears Tower roof, then who cares.

Honestly, I just called it "significant" simply because it cleared the Sears Tower.

http://skyscrapercenter.com/building/willis-tower/169

Sears Tower:

Height: Architectural 442 m / 1,451 ft
Height: To Tip 527 m / 1,729 ft
Height: Occupied 413 m / 1,354 ft

Nordstrom Tower:
Height: Architectural 454m / 1,490 ft OR 472m / 1,550 ft
Height: To Tip 541 m / 1,775 ft
Height: Occupied 436 m / 1,430 ft ??

It looks like Nordstrom will beat Sears in every category.

Compering two towers Willis Tower vs Nordstrom Tower , well , looks like Chicago will loose but not by floor count.
