Yeah, in this website, height is half the battle, I'm hoping for 500m+ AND a good design, what a rare combination

Yup, height is an important aspect of every skyscraper. That's what makes a skyscraper a skyscraper and not just a random building

I would be shocked if this hit 500m, expect in the 450 range...taller than 432 Park Ave most likely.

I prefer a maximum design than a maximum height. Tall is cool but rather an amazing 350 than a bland 500.

but really, even bland 500m buildings are amazing, even if it is just a box it looks amazing if it is tall, probably the only building over 500m i did not like in the slithiest was the chicago spire and that was because it did not fit chicago, but inside New York i can imagine pretty much anything, New York's skyline is already crazy, so if something crazy comes out of this it fits into, if something rather simple comes it will also fit . the only thing i am afraid about is that the building will look too thin if it is like 500m, but even then it will look cool i am sure. new york is an architectural playground, so not much bad things can happen out of this.

I really can't wait for them to release a design and a height for this building. I think that 500 meters is very feasible, because Chicago was about to receive a 610 meter residential tower and if it wouldn't have been for the 2008 recession this building would be built today

Wrong.

IMHO - The Chi-Spire was doomed to be never built. The whole marketing concept behind it was just full of failures. It never had the market in Chicago to justify the asked prices. Some just make the 2008 crash responsible for the projects death.

I hope this tower will be in the 450m range. That´s more then enough for this very location and might give NYC new options, which a 500m building won´t.

I think he was referring to the stale proposal: 'Post office Redevelopment' which included an extremely tall residential skyscraper which resembled Sears and JHC.

I thought that project was from after 2008.
However, would a similar project be possible in New York, given the extremely high apartment prices in One 57 for example?

not until the midtown rezoning is complete, and that would probably be the maximum height.

Permits we're filed on 5 October 2012 in connection with 225 W 57th, the last remaining structure on the site.

I walked by this site and Morton Williams new location at 140 W 57th St on 10 Oct. 2012. MW's new site has its refrigerator cases in, etc. It looks quite nice. More importantly, it means that the demolition of the final structure at the Nordstrom site is forthcoming. It will be entirely gone by December.

Demolition Alley: Columbus Circle East, 225 W.57th St. + Deconstructing 220 CPS (Deal Reached?)

Quote:

At some point in the near future you will have an open view of Central Park from West 57th Street, just East of Broadway. No, not from the high floors at the Portzaerroneousmparc tower, but simply from ground level. It will be a rare but short-lived view through two city blocks, but there is just that much demo work going on in the area right now. Currently there stands a large vacant lot where 225 West 57th once stood, future home to an Extell Development [50 story -erroneous post by blogger] mixed use tower that is rumored to be the future home of the tallest Nordstrom in all the land. Extell has taken out a couple of adjoining buildings as well as the building just to the north on West 58th Street. Across the street on the north side of 58th Street the back tower of once and future 220 CPS has completed demolition, a couple of next door buildings are coming down (219 and 221 West 58th), and work has begun on the demolition of the front tower of 220 CPS that faces CPS. They are laying waste to the whole area! 220 CPS has been subject to a battle between Extell Development that owns (owned?) the garage space and Vornado that owns everything else. Last we heard from any source was that Extell was taking Vornado to court, but some settlement surely must have been worked out, as the only thing that is coming out of that garage at this point is a bobcat moving debris.

The result here is an amazing demolition alley in some of the densest and most valuable property in the world! The pics I have here are from this week, and, yes, they are a bit gloomy, but then again, de-construction is a dirty business.
