I stand for free speech regarding the true nature of projects in a global context, unhindered by NY blinkers and rabid NY homerists.

JE SUIS CHARLIE -- in the context of development projects, as we must have our opinions be free of such vicious attacks by city boosters and biased factions... let all who wish to have a balanced view of design in NYC and how it relates in a global context stand with me now.

Let Free Speech reign free, and let no one clique of city boosters deny our right to analyse with a FAIR and BALANCED approach, the projects going up today in this great city. Unrealistic boosterism is the enemy of free speech and leads to harmful disillusional thought. All cities have good to teach us, and all criticism should be WELCOMED with open arms if we are to hold NYC to a HIGHER STANDARD in Design!

Vive La France, et Vive NYC!!
Freedom of Speech is great,, when everybody is civilized.. It doesn't work with the Uncivilized./Extremist's kill until killed!

You may be right! (City Of Platinum),, But tell the families of the innocent victim's mowed down,, why provoke this? Why?, why on Earth did he pursue, and challenge the Terrorists? I don't understand it,, you may,, but the families of the innocent Dead will never understand. Too much hatred in this World today! Why ask for more? ( If offered a billion dollars to walk across a sleeping hungry lion's den, why on Earth do you awaken the last 1 by kicking it? And they devour you??) I just don't see the purpose to insult, aggravate and even irritate, provoking loss of innocent folks who had no idea it was coming. I expect to banned now, just like you have experienced, but I had to put it out there. I've got no problem with people making a stand, but the people who died in the wake of his stand, that's where I have a problem. I'm just saying this didn't have to happen!
Back on topic, the bldg. looks nice.

By the name of this tower, normally you would think that it would be located somewhere in Scandinavia.

It's not actually Nordstorm Tower, like it claims in the opening page...

It's Nordstrom Tower. Thought the first one would be cooler.

We should build a Nordstorm Tower here in Finland. That would be fitting... And we need more tall towers ! Anything taller than Tampere Näsinneula or Tornihotelli would be nice.

I think he had it right, and was just referring to how Nordstrom sounds like many common Scandinavian -strom names, rather than the American department store.

In any case, I'm almost sure that it will have a different official name (or rather, no name, and just some street address) even though most people will probably come to think of it as "Nordstrom Tower."

info about the founder as per Wikipedia:

Quote:
He was born Johan Nordström (later anglicizing it to "John") in the village of Alvik, near Luleå, Sweden
so it's legacy Scandinavian

they're out of the way for most New Yorkers passing by to get. Some forumers have been generous enough to go up a few floors in a nearby building to get shots.

There is a hole in the fence adjacent to a building on the 58th street side on the west side of the site that can allow you to look down into most of the site. I'll revisit next week when I go back to school.

I just looked up Google Maps for elavation figures, for 217W57th it's 24.357m or 79.9ft (79' 11'').

So the parapet (according to the latest DOB filings) is 1,630ft (497m) EL and spire 1,855ft (565m) EL. Damn, this tower will have a massive impact on the skyline!

Just visited the forum for crown tower in Sydney and Damon is it a nice looking tower! Just another testament to the skill of AS GG. My only concern is that they don't design boxy towers. All things said though I have a good feeling that this tower will become a new icon for NYC design and height wise.
Can't wait for renders

One World Trade Center is listed as 55 feet below sea level. I don't know if that's correct, but even at 10 feet above sea level the difference is 70 feet at the base, and 250'+ at the roof/parapet.

It is named after a department store founded in an area with heavy Scandinavian influence though.

That's because the digital elevation data for the WTC hasn't been updated since the bathtub was fully excavated.

I looked on an aviation map and also google earth. The ground elevation "MSL" of the streets is 80' where the Nordstrom building will be built. On aviation charts they list ESB as 1,454' Agl and 1,505 Msl The WTC is listed as 1,792' Agl or 1,806' Msl. These figures are to the highest point on these structures. The lightning rod. At 1,855' Nordstrom will take the title of the highest point MSL ever constructed in the city.
