Yimby says that the basic design he revealed is essentially the final one. T that's fine by me, as it looks good. However, Verr and Steinway blow it away.

I would place the tower crane base directly on the concrete bottom.

Maybe this is something for a construction elevator.
The vertical bars do not seem to have a certain pattern to fix a crane base onto it.

It seems almost certain that Nordstrom's design won't change much (maybe a few tweaks here and there).

So it really makes me wonder though. Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill are famous for designing great skyscrapers abroad (China, Middle East) yet fail in NYC. The same could be said about KPF: great towers overseas but mediocre designs in New York (see Hudson Yards).

Thank God that we have SHoP and Nouvel. Steinway and Verre are just another league ...

I like nordstrom and the main towers of hudson yards. Yet think verre and steinway are the most ugly towers coming for the city. Tastes can be so different.

Where's your sense of true art fellow mathematician? I have to admit, as a mathematician, 432 PA has a certain appeal. But Nordstrom is just "meh".

We're getting fine tallest tower in the US, and it still has a pretty nice design.

I like this tower. It is not Steinway or Verre, of course, but it will still make a nice addition to the best skyline in the world.

The thing is: New York City is just getting started. Nordstrom Tower is just the tip of the iceberg.

Everyone wants to live in NYC. As the global economy continues to improve, and Wall Street rebounds, we will get a lot more towers.

I predict NYC will look like Coruscant by 2050.

I agree. There doesn't seem to be any support underneath the floor either.

Taste is subjective, of course. Taste of the super rich gravitates towards bling, though.

A simple glass curtain wall is fine for a utilitarian office building, but I don't see how it can realistically compete with terra cotta, limestone and other nicely detailed fašades (read: Verre).

For what it's worth, I also find this design underwhelming. Besides the simple curtain wall, I find the seemingly haphazard asymmetry of the setbacks and cantilevers jarring. There does not seem to be a graceful overarching pattern, as if the design is guided solely by its technical constraints.

I agree! Verre and the Steinway are in a different league design wise. True work of art for NYC those residential towers will be.

It would be nice if AS&GG can ultimately add this tower to that mix as well but I do however really like the design of the Nordstrom currently. Honestly I would be a satisfied customer.

Ok, so basically we almost have tower core and first crane on site and still no official design reveal? I wouldn't mind if that was 4-story condo, but this is gonna be freakin tallest tower in the USA! This sort of practise should be illigal

As far as we know now, it may change or it may have already changed (I don't think it did). I am really excited for the tower babyback was talking about that would take the tallest residential building in the world from Nordstrom. Assuming it's still on, haven't heard from him about it in a while.

Which tower are you talking about?

This will be the tallest residential tower even to the roof considering the Pentimonium in Dubai seems to be indefinitely stalled/probably won't be finished.

It seems there has been a lot of progress since I was here last time. As I cannot contribute much here at the moment, I'll just be watching. Keep posting photo updates guys...

I tried going by the portion in front of Lee's Art shop to get some pics for you guys but honestly I couldn't see anything. The pit was blocked by a bunch of junk so unfortunately I couldn't get any pics.

Oh yeah, I remember when One 57 was under foundation works. Back then it was called Carnegie 57. The site looked a lot like this one does now.
