I've seen smaller quarry's.:p

But they are indeed at the bottom I think. Maybe that hole is for a basement elevator shaft.

Nordstrom Tower w/o the spire will stand 1,500 feet tall!

Quote:
A block west, there is Extell’s 92-story 225 West 57th Street. It will be a condo with a full-line Nordstrom department store at the base, as well as a hotel and 199 residential units. Sales are expected to start in 2017, the same year when the project is expected to be complete, BHS data indicate. Excavation is already underway. Nordstrom Tower will be 1,500 feet tall without the spire.
Is 57th Street the Most Overpriced Block in the U.S.?

Cool!

Sometimes articles are wrong or estimate though, but if that's true I'm totally cool with 1500'

That is incredible, it means that it will reach the height of the CN Tower Now get one more foot and you'll not only be the tallest building in the US and the tallest skyscraper in the western hemisphere, but also the tallest building in the western hemisphere

i rescaled my Sketchup model to reflect the new roof and with the spire it is 1895' feet high but thats just my measurement using existing spire from the old 1479' parapet height and 1775' total plus the added hight from the new roof. so it's not official until Barnett announces it but heres to hoping I'm half right or i could be totally wrong thats ok too.

Guys keep in mind circular referencing. They might have just scanned the web and given the closest approximation; they could have gotten that number from here. This isn't exactly an article by the FAA

This is most excellent, and feeds my roof height cravings! I will definitely look at this as being taller than 1 WTC, and its going to set the stage for taller beasts to come! It will be very imposing, that is for sure!!

The pit looks to be a good 75' to 85' deep. How many underground levels will the parking be spread out on? Of course they will need parking for Nordstroms along with parking for the tenants in the tower as well.

Back in 2004 when I was watching BK rise from a hole in the desert, I used to think it was an exciting time. But its way better now!!

In this pictureyou can see there will be 4 underground levels.
Nevertheless, little of it will be dedicated for parking, since in Manhattan, south of Central Park, parking is not only not mandated, but highly discouraged.

Definetely not parking for Nordstrom customers. Maybe a few spots for the top management personnel of the store and some others for the tower apartments. But most of that space wil be occupied by loading areas for the store and tower, storage space for the store and diverse mechanical and services for both the store and tower.

Besides, the folks who'll be living there can afford to call a cab about 40 000 times a day if they want, so they don't need a car

Very true.. And I am sure its safe to assume that the tenants that do have cars, have their own drivers as well. If I won the mega millions lottery, I would still never be able to deal with someone driving me around!

The 2 lower levels in the pic of the pit above, look to be normal sized. Its the first and second level down that look like very tall ceilings!

Like with FT it's not spire at all. Just an antenna installed on the roof. So it's 1500'. And antenna atop ESB fits architecturally much better than those two.
