It definitely fits architecturally I think, the renderings make it look pretty good, and way better than 1WTC's over sized harpoon spear which I agree is overkill.

Although I can't really picture 1WTC without its pinnacle.

This will basically be the tallest tower in NY right? To roof height at least?

We've yet to see the final renders so I'm reserving judgement about that...

Is the WTC spire constructed differently then the antenna mast on ESB? If you put an antenna on a spire does that change the definition of that spire to an antenna. Some make it sound as if a spire is constructed permanently to the structure and the antenna is an afterthought snap on snap off.

yes. The spire atop 1 WTC may not be pleasing to the eye to some (and it also will happen to host communications equipment in the future...), but it is a permanent architectural feature like the spire on top Trump Chicago or the Zifeng Tower in Nanjing.

Man, that looks just like the One57 site when it was under foundation work. It is nice to see that most of the dirt appears to be gone now, and we're moving into concrete. It's also exciting that the crane looks like it should be in very soon.

Highest roof outside Asia unless Latkha tower in Russia finishes first, but the top of that tower is more like a pinnacle so this will be the highest flat roof outside Asia (Dubai being Asia of course).

Is the base of that crane within the core or outside of it.

From what I understand this tower doesn't have a defined core.

It is outside of the footprint of the Tower (marked in blue) that crane is approximately in the place marked by the red square.

In my opinion, the whole 'spires v anntenae' is bollocks..Ive no idea why some count and some dont. ( and I know the technical answer...I just dont agree with it ).
Look at this diagram ( and there's thousands of examples....some far more extreme than this )..

Noone will ever tell me that the Petronas towers are taller than the Willis Tower...yet thats what the official records say...

All I'd say to these people is this.. if you really think that the Sears tower is shorter than the 452 m. tall Petronas buildings... try flying a light aircraft directly over the 'smaller' Chicago tower at 453 m. ...... see what happens.

I will say this on the Willis Tower antennae vs spire debate, especially as relates to the "controversy" over 1WTC. The masts on the Willis Tower are huge in diameter and are a landmark feature of the building. When is the last time they have been changed or significantly adjusted? If never since their addition then it might be fair to say they are a permanent feature.

Actually I just remembered, the tubular spires on the Willis Tower are not even cable-stayed, they are not masts, even more credence to being counted as a permanent spire.
