Wow, I'm not the hugest fan of spires, but this one looks so much more "integrated" than others. The renders look great.

Thanks!

This is a dumb and obvious comment, but I'll make it anyway: it looks like the future. None of the new towers looks like anything that's come before. Even Nordstrom, with its slender (and yet somehow still muscular) profile looks pretty alien compared with other glassy International style 'scrapers.

I'm still parsing out my feelings on the specifics of Nordstrom. I think it's a little too busy (particularly the wavy glass at the top), but overall and especially viewed on the skyline, I like it a lot. The most substantial change seems to be the reversed orientation of the spires, with the shorter spire on the outside. I liked it the other way around slightly better but I'm not getting bent out of shape about it.

I still think Steinway is the jewel in the Central Park crown, whereas Nordstrom is the titan looming over all else. Sort of an ESB-Chrysler relationship.

Nordstrom is an actual beast!

It looks insanely tall, very slender yet has a very strong muscular build

It really does look like the future; blade runner-esque with those light up bands

The spire is very nice and has quite some gurth making it prominent; the smaller spire helps to add to the setbacks as well as giving it a taller overall presence

I'm actually really really disappointed... I was hoping all of the preliminary renderings were more about massing models than facade details, but it appears that this will be a completely non-distinct design. Glass box. Such a prominent location on the sky-line, and such an opportunity to do something truly remarkable, and they've really fallen very short. I was even more hopeful for Adrian Smith, who has designed some very nice glass super-talls (including Burj Kalifa, and Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai) This tower just seems so very bland. darn.

To each their own, but I think you might like it once it's actually built. I bet the cladding will be really nice too.

It's also 455 meters to the roof which is quite a giant and to boot, the spire actually looks like part of the building unlike that of 1WTC which looks like an oversized communications antenna.

definitely looking forward to this one

the spire does seem shorter... which probably means the roof height has increased a bit.

I hope you're right, I would love to see this building beat the CN Tower

That would be great and that would definitely indicate a higher roof to me!! Me hopes anyway.

Re: spire. I agree with all the sentiments above!! I really dig the look.

Nothing excites me about this building other than the height. Its merely another glass box. I am very disappointed at this bland design.

Nordstrom just dwarfs One57, which itself is a supertall. Really looks 1,500' to the roof. Also, the lighting scheme could be pretty epic at night ... maybe the spire will be lit up.

It's definitely NOT a boring box. That would have been the original massing we saw all were concerned about. However, even if it's not the artistic equal of Steinway or Verre have to say Extell did great with this and we have ourselves the centerpiece Central Park area tower we all hoped for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for its roof height 1,493 is great but like Steinway grew to 1,428 ft in its latest application wouldn't be shocked at all if it went up to the original 1,550 ft to the roof speculated early on. Certainly wouldn't be surprised they at least would go over 1,500 ft especially as it appears the highest spire is somewhat shorter than expected.

I wouldn't say haters ... maybe it's because Steinway and Verre are superior, architecturally speaking (which again is highly subjective). People (me included) tend go get spoiled, not only design-wise. We live in a time where supertalls in New York get proposed every other week ... and if they are <400m we call them "ok" or "not tall enough". I myself am guilty of that.

Did I mention New York needs a real signature tower?

From that view looks only half the height of Nordstrom... like the kid on the block!
