Those are massing placeholders for the Park Lane and 31 W. 57th. We don't know what they'll look like, or really even how tall they'll be, so they're really just in the ballpark.

Love the contrast between the buildings... wish 432 Park could be added though. When Park Lane and 31 W57th get added to the mix it will be incredible.... and that's not including any other potential supertall sites added on and this is but one of the several areas in Manhattan that's going to see a dramatic growth spurt including downtown, the Hudson Yards/West Side and the Midtown East district starting with One Vanderbilt ! We're talking crazy good times for the 21st century New York City skyline!!!!!!!!!!!!

NIMBY comment of the day

http://gizmodo.com/heres-what-the-wo...ill-1699055820

**** it all, and **** Nordstrom’s. I was so vocally against this building, and the cantilever that extends over the landmark Art Student’s League building. The board of the ASL sold us out for a fraction of what they should have gotten for the air-rights. This thing is a monster, a terrorist target, and totally out of scale with the other buildings. (No one really answered what would happen if ice or debris fell off the cantilever and into the ASL building.) Nordstrom’s has been a favorite of mine for decades — I hope they get horrible publicity for imposing this monstrosity upon us all (the developer had said that the cantilever was Nordstrom’s demand). I can only hope that the scandalous tax-shelter high-end real estate market of NYC crashes before this thing tops out.

I still can't get over how tiny One57 looks sandwiched between Steinway and this thing.

Does anyone know what part of the tower is this?

I'm guessing the image on the right is an entrance along the base; perhaps for the hotel or condo owners. it doesn't look to scale with a large department store.

I hope it's the roof/parapet because that would be just awesome. Gorgeous glass ~1500' up

I like the thin profile, and I'm interested in seeing how the blue lighting will work. I think it will look amazing on the skyline. It may not be a masterpiece but it's not a simple glass box, either.

Seeing all the towers together in Marshall's rendering makes me pretty excited. It kind of hearkens back to downtown Manhattan in the 30s/40s with a few buildings towering dramatically above the rest.

I remember there was a time not too long ago, One57 was pretty prominent looking in the skyline. Now with the Nordstrom, Steinway & 432 Park it's looking like Tyrion Lannister in the CP skyline!! Times are changing.

As per today's Post, Gary B is furious about Yimby's leak.

Living the high life: First look at 1,775-foot-tall Nordstrom Tower

By Jennifer Gould Keil

Quote:
First-look renderings of what will be the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere show a sleek monolith rising out of Midtown and nearly piercing the clouds.

The Nordstrom Tower at 217 W. 57th St. will be a glimmering skyscraper with sweeping views of the East River, the Hudson River and everything in between.

The renderings, first published on the development-news Web site New York Yimby, reveal what the building will look like from the interior and exterior.

However, a source said, the building’s design features “are still being tweaked on a daily basis.”

“The developer is so secretive that people jump whenever anything comes to light,” a source said.

Real-estate sources said that the architect firm, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture of Chicago, did not create the renderings, and that the images may have been leaked from a marketing source for the building.

The tower itself will stand 1,775 feet tall — one foot shorter than 1 World Trade Center — and will be anchored by a 200,000-square-foot Nordstrom department store, a hotel and offices as well as condos.

The developer also plans to build a penthouse with what could be the highest outdoor space in the city.

Sources said the skyscraper will be stopping 12 inches short of 1WTC’s patriotic height of 1,776 feet out of respect.

“When we were planning the building, we decided that we were going to make it less tall out of respect,” said Nordstrom Tower developer Gary Barnett. “I can’t comment on what other developers plan to do or what our final building will be, but that was the plan.”

The roof height will be 1,479 feet, but an added spire will bring its pinnacle height to 1,775 feet.

Barnett would shed no new light on the renderings of the tower.

I assume that's the first setback a few stories above ground level.

The articles keep saying 1479' to the roof but they may be mistaken, it looks slightly higher in the new renderings.

In any case I'm stoked for this building! It's one of the best things to happen to NY

The latest DOB permit said 1,493'.

Anyway, the final roof height seems to be one of the "tweeks" that's subject to change.

That sounds about right, but sometimes I trust DOB filings just as much (or little) as I trust articles when it comes to figures as they are often outdated or reused.

You'd think Barnett would go as high as possible to have a noticeable edge over Steinway.
