it is still hard for me to believe that midtown is getting such tall towers in the middle of already existing city fabric. I was amazed by the fact that One57 was proposed to be the first supertall ever being build in such an enviroment, unlike supertalls worldwide sitting on seperate plots. But 432p av. and especially this tower blow my mind away like crazy.

I LOVE YOU MANHATTAN

And I can´t wait for the future skyline. <3

Design looks awesome! I'm sure Robert Walpole would approve.

Add the 80ft EL, and you'll get ~ 1,900 footer.

Finally we'll have a new tallest, by spire and roof height. So glad Barnett decided to go taller than 1WTC. Now I want a 2,000 footer ... Hudson Yards, Midtown East?
Also, it's hard to believe that this monster will be taller than two TWCs stacked together.

Exciting Times!

I would love for this to be true but I dont think it is... CN tower is 1,819 feet. They need like 25 more feet I dont know why they just dont add it.

People talk about Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Dubai allegedly surpassing NY merely because they each have a Hypertall. In reality, those cities don't compare to NY. Nordstrom would be at least the second or third tallest building in those cities, and they simply don't compare re: 900'+ towers.

At first I had mixed feelings about the possibility of Nordstrom surpassing 1WTC, but now that 1 WTC's completed, I say BRING IT ON!! The gentlemen's agreement was getting tired anyway. Remember in the good ol' days when we expected it to be a 1,400 foot box?

Pleased to see a deliberate height increase and not decrease, even more pleased it eclipses the false patriot one world trade center. It will be interesting to watch this bby rise

Oh and can we getta mod to possibly change the threads official height to 547 m?

This is a great thread that dnobsemaj started years ago. He was a friend of Walpole's.

I look forward to a 1,530 tower rising amidst these stunning old landmarks.

According to today's NYP, Barnett denies that the spire will exceed 1,775'. That's fine with me. I just care about the parapet.

I wish Barnett would just shut up with the denials or spill already. 1,775 ft is NOT sacrosanct...even if it were just that height to the tip of the spire the land it sits on being nearly 100 ft higher than where WTC1 stands will make it the highest point in the city. Barnett seriously annoys me with his coy games about the design AND height, though I suspect the design will very closely resemble all we've seen so far leaked.

So if he is denying it does that mean we should take this height increase with a grain of salt?

I think it means that the height is going to increase, but that Barnett doesn't want to admit it until later for marketing reasons, just as he got angry at YIMBY for leaking the design. Then again, I could be wrong, and Barnett could still have that "respect" mentality.
