I was elated when I walked by and saw an empty store with a sign that read: "This store will close on Thursday, October 26th. Please visit us at our new store located at 140 W 57th Street!"

This is very good news. I hope this will move ahead through prep as fast as 432 Park did

It's my understanding that last year, before Extell reached an agreement with MW, it completed all asbestos removal on the 8 unoccupied floors above the market. Therefore, this will come down in a hurry!

This and 432 Park will provide very dramatic 400m+ bookends on Central Park's southern skyline.

I asked the same thing a few months ago philipx, but apparently Extell doesn't like to release their designs before they start building. I don't know why, but that's just how they do it.

Maybe they enjoy seeing NIMBYies freak out

What's the point of living in Manhattan if you are a NIMBY ? I can't figure it out...

It's not so much NIMBYism as hypocrisy. It's "View for me but not for thee!'

They dominate SF, Boston, and Seattle too. Oddly, they're in the sophisticated cities.

They are in the more liberal cities because many liberals hate skyscrapers. Most Canadian cities have strong NIMBY showings as well.

Not odd at all. My hometown, Gainesville, FL, is a liberal town. And the liberals are the staunch no-growth faction. It's the conservatives who want to build and go forward.

I tend to agree with this, but was wondering why you thought this was so.

Liberals hate skyscrapers? I don't think there is any evidence to support that being the case more than Conservatives. Aren't you all the ones that dislike government spending? A lot of that goes into skyscrapers.

People complain about everything really. Any large city is going to have NIMBYs in this country.
