NYC is up for a major skyline upgrade and I hope they go further and start building more.

h ttp://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/05/12/extell_says_nordstrom_tower_will_not_eclipse_one_wtc.php

This is kinda old news and you guys may have mentioned this already, but I think this is such a classy move from Barnett. Developers tend to be pretty ruthless and unsentimental. 1WTC will get passed eventually, but it's a really nice gesture. I have a ton of respect for him for this.

(The freaking commenters on Curbed really do make my skin crawl though)

This move by Barnett has nothing to do with sentimentality.

As of now this tower will be 1795 feet. Taller than the World Trade Center.

I agree, Gary has never been one to tell the truth and until I hear otherwise from a source I trust I am going to believe that he has every intention of surpassing one world trade center.

Well he says it'll be lower out of respect and I'll believe him at his word until he gives me a reason not to. Personally, I don't think he'd want to risk the ugly PR of coming out and saying this and then turning around and doing it anyway. He is a business man after all. He has plenty to gain by schmoozing brownie points like this.

That should have been the roof height. That would be really cool.

That would have been nice, but even at ~1500' the roof is incredibly high. I think proportionally it fits better with the skyline at that height but hopefully NY sees a roof that high someday.

Any ugly PR he'd get from an about-face would be offset easily by the PR of having the tallest building in New York.

Also, nobody actually cares about 1WTC being the tallest. It's not a big deal.

Soon enough 432 will be the third tallest on the block, and One57 not even in the top 5!

Oh NYC...

This is a seriously nice tower! I'm surprised it doesn't have more than 100 floors though

These luxury condos have very high ceilings. 432 Park avenue is ~427 meters tall and has 85-90 real floors (marketed as 96 for some reason), so it's not that unusual.

Another example would be the financial center in Shanghai, it's ~490 meters, only a little taller than this building and has 95 real floors albeit a large empty space up top.

Walked by the site today. Big mobile crane on site and there are about 7 or 8 crane segments there. I suspect the crane(s) is/are going in this week. About time.

This tower has gone from what I thought was going to be a cancelled proposal to my favorite tower in Manhattan.
