I don't get the disappointment. 1550' to the parapet is what we were hoping for this whole time. The spire wasn't anything substantial unlike with 1 WTC where it held symbolic and functional meaning.

McMully mon. Be thankful that the USA is still building tall towers at all. Ok?

It's the problem dudes, you not happy with nothing. Dis tower is just 12 meters below the tallest tower in Hong Kong, and that's with no mickey the mouse spire brother.

Come down to Caribbean if you sad...you'll see nice 2 story building, hahaha!

I am a spire lover but IMO in this case it fits better without.

Because buildings are built based on demand and profit here.

I can't believe there are so many complaints on here after a height increase.

I'm happy for the height increase. In all honesty if the spire was going to be 1775' then who really needs the spire since it would still be shorter than 1 WTC.

This is extremely exciting to me. At 1550 to the top and being built on an elevation of about 80 feet this thing will soar to an incredible 1630 above sea level. That's almost 300 feet higher than the roof of 1WTC!

I'm not unhappy about the spire being cut. NYC has way too many stick spires on flat roofs anyway.
And 1550ft. is about the tallest roof/crown height that has ever been reasonably speculated.
Of course, I wouldn't mind if they skipped the spire and made the roof 1775ft. instead.

I don't care about the spire, there are already enough spires in New York. All I want is roof height. A new tallest building in America.

The spire would make much more impact in the skyline than just 20 more feet of actual building, those extra 20 feet nobody will notice, the spire will. And anyway, it is not as if it is either one or another, the building could be 1550 ft to the parapet and still have the spire, could be 1770 ft, and have the spire anyway.

I really don't care about the vanity height, for me that is a boring discussion, either count the height to the spire or not, whatever. But I do think those pointy (and cheaty if you want) things really enhance the skyline. See those pictures and notice how the spires give the New York Skyline a different look, a different feeling, specially at night.

At 1550 ft. this building will be indeed the pinnacle of Midtown, but I think it would be really nice that it had enhanced it pinnacle-ness with a spire (and again, not talking about the height, but the aesthetic of it) That's why I think it would be a pitty if they indeed get ride of the spire. I wish they don't after all.
I completely agree!, and just to add, I love the needle-look the spire gives to some towers, specially in New York with so many towers. And I dislike the fact that the extra height is counted, so that's not the point for me. 432 Park and Steinway towers without spire are fine, not all towers must have spires. But Central Park Tower needs a spire!.

If someone did and made them available, I would pay a nice sum, just to stick it in Extell's ass! Construction is nearing street level and no one has made an official announcement on the final height and floor count.

Don't forget people that in the long run it is Nordstrom and the condo owners that will have to pay extra for the spire, not us skyscraper loonies.

I agree. Who cares about spires unless they look really nice and are truly part of the building (ie ESB, Chrysler)
