Haven't checked up on this project for a while. Will this building still be 1,775 feet with the spire or not?

They'll sneak a spire up the stairs.

What is that building in the middle of the last picture? It looks like the Flatiron, but that isn't on 57th.

it seems to be some weird panoramic picture so you can asume its just a square building on the corner.

That's 5 Columbus Circle/1790 Broadway (which will house a large portion of the Nordstrom store at street level.)

From NewYorkYIMBY

Because it sits on Broadway, it's not square -- rather, the acutely angled intersection gives the NW corner a distinctive "bull nose," similar to the Flatiron. It's pretty dramatic in its own right, however the panorama is definitely exaggerating the effect. Here's a cool illustrative shot by Beth52549 on Deviantart:

Other than that, the investment bankers don't want to push through bus loads of school kids going to a museum at the base of their tower. More museums and libraries are needed, but this is not necessarily the place when retail square footage is astronomically expensive. Just one block north or south and this problem does not exist.
Anything that inconveniences investment bankers in any way should receive public funding imo.

No, they cancelled the tower and started demolishing it without announcement. If you wanna ask for updates, just do so.

If you're eager for photo updates, I would follow the thread on YimbyForums -- the guys over there (including former longtime SSC denizen RobertWalpole) post updates every couple days, most recently on April 18th.
