..not all the way, it seems.

But, yes, I still think that the Burj Khalifa is higher.

It's interesting you bring this up, as the Kingdom Tower's floor space compelled me to research what supertalls contain the most floor space. Despite being vastly outclassed in height in modern times, the Sears Tower's floor space still reigns supreme at a whopping 4.5 million square feet, surpassing the Burj Khalifa by a million square feet, and crushing the Kingdom Tower by nearly 2 million square feet.

The Abraj Al Bait in Mecca has more floor space in its entire complex, but its main tower still lags behind Sears by over a million square feet. Even the Petronas Towers, most famous for being the first towers to eclipse Sears still contain less floor space than the Sears Tower despite building two towers! The Sears Tower is the 36th largest building in the world by floor space but holds a relatively small footprint.

So, Sears has long lost the height game, but still holds impressive stats for the height/square area ratio for a single supertall and is arguably the most efficient office tower built.

Not anymore, Sears Tower's floor space no longer reigns supreme. Shanghai Tower has a tad more.

Shanghai Tower - 4,520,842 sq ft
Sears Tower - 4,477,787 sq ft

My sources told me that Shanghai Tower's floor space in the super tall itself was around 4 million square feet. Anyone know what the floor space in Central Park Tower is?

from YIMBY http://newyorkyimby.com/2016/06/rend...th-street.html

renderings from Extell have finally started leaking online, this time courtesy of EB-5 materials that surfaced on the YIMBY forums. The images show the tower is identical to renderings created in-house by YIMBY previously, and while they confirm the supertall has lost its spire, it will still become the tallest building by roof height on the continent, reaching 1,550 feet tall, and having a marketing floor count of 131.

That is exactly what I meant by "gimmickry". Bunch of windowles tin cans, presumably habitable if one doesnt mind boiling in the heat of Arabia while living inside a 20x20 feet metal can in the sun. I am sure they can also place some cat food on the inside of the top can of that crescent, and call it "inhabitted". What about some bird seeds at the very top to call that 2x2 feet can another habitable floor? Come on!

That is the cantilever that will hold up the side of the building that uses the "air rights" of the neighboring building without resting directly on it. Those braces under the cantilever would be removed later when the structure begins self sustaining

A whole apartment counts as a usable floor. More than one room, furniture, a place to live. It is a floor.

Yeah, these are the best renders yet! It's funny because if you didn't know any better, you could easily mistake it for an office building ... it's muscular and imposing, but I think we're going to be surprised when it rises by just how thin it actually is.

I do miss the spire, not so much as a part of the design itself, but just to break up the string of flat roofs of the CPS supertalls. In that recent CityRealty image of Midtown 2020, it really does look like there's going to be a new 1200-1500 ft. plateau (!!) so I wouldn't mind seeing one or two spires breaking through.

I'm still not convinced that's what we're looking at. Does that outcropping appear to be 290 feet high? It seems much lower than that, but it could just be a matter of perspective.

If I had to wager, I'd say that is a temporary service platform to store construction equipment. Heh, any of you locals want to ask a construction worker next time you're nearby?
