That is exciting. When the formwork is in place, the tower will finally start to grow at a steady pace, core including cantilever!

Once again this city is buzzing with style. I'm having an impression that most of the towers seem to be well above ground now. This one and the Steinway tower are my favorite projects if we speak about aesthetics, and of course the already finished 432 Park Avenue.

This building is the tallest tower going up in America, quite amazing. I really like the modern and elegant design. I think this one is the most impressive tower, even more impressive than Steinway because it isn't so thin. Wish it was on the river actually.

That is not the cantelever I don't believe. Not even the framework for it. I believe that is just protection for the Art Society building below. It has moved up over the past couple of weeks.

I think all the cantelever work on the east side is yet to start.

I disagree, that is indeed the formwork for the cantilever in that picture from ILNY

New York's skyline is gonna look pretty dope by 2020, more if we take into consideration there was not much of a change during the first decade.

Seems very decent pace to me. Keep in mind they still do not have a full construction loan in place yet. Just funding with short term financing and equity. Extell did the same with One57 and that had some stutters and pauses.

If by pretty dope you mean easily the best on the planet then sure. I love Chicago and some Asian skylines but even with their development, they're not keeping up with NYC. Only maybe one or two (Shenzhen?) are.

I might've had too high hopes, but i thought the cantilever part would be more integrated into the design... Here it almost looks like they chucked on cheap balconies on an otherwise quite nice tower... =(

Indeed, renders show a blank wall with this side protruding.

The Real Deal

To add to that, the extension has odd setbacks on both its north and south face. At seemingly arbitrary floors, not aligned with anything else.

Yimby

Conversely, the other side of the building just unceremoniously stops at a low floor. All in all, not a very coherent design, unless I'm missing something.

That Real Deal article is recent and a good read, by the way: Inside Gary Barnett’s game of real estate Tetris.

Any chance for a plot to open next to 220 CPS for a highrise to block that cantilever atrocity from sight and make it look like CPT is a decent regular tower?

I believe most of those buildings next to 220 CPS on 59th st are landmarked so I doubt they'll ever be redeveloped.
I wouldn't call CPT a major disappointment cause it will have a major impact on the skyline, but that's about it. The design is banal at best, it looks like any glass tower that you see rising anywhere in the world, truly a missed opportunity.
But it'll be tall...
